    Thank you both.
I'd already read the thread mentioned, but had no idea InControl existed.

Now installed on my aged Win 10 Pro laptop
The acid test for me will be if it works on a Win 10 Home box next week
Then I'll mark the thread solved

But thank you for quality prompt replies

    Glad to help @spilly.
I expect InControl will work just fine - if you used it - as the author has been around for a long time. You won't be able to mark this thread as closed because it wasn't started by you, but do post an update if you'd like to.

mmortal is correct. The answer is, "No.".

The online guides to installing the policy editor in Home Edition often fail to mention that it does not function in Home. It just acts as a viewer and is therefore next to useless.

    All the best,
    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

Well, the described ways are insufficient (some Services are missing to deactivate) - but, the real problem is - IT DOESN'T WORK.

I also opened a thread about that problem.

it works when you have a machine separated from the internet, a LTSC-machine, e.g. in a laboratory environment.
for that - I have a really good script in PS...

But I still don't know Jack which Service triggers the Orchestrator Service back to life.

Even the logs won't give any clue.

    it's really frustrating.

And Microsoft tells nothing about it, Microsoft won't give ANY answer. The transparency went wild - there is none.

Any pro around here with some experience about that problem?

I would be really happy about it.

Why do people torment themselves over this when there is a bulletproof ad-free app called Stopupdates10 which can be turned on or off instantly and doesn't activate AV programs? I installed it when I installed win 10 and forgot I'd installed it when I tried everything to turn updates on again!!

there is no such thing as "bulletproof" in the IT.

esp not in that thread concerning "Win Update".

i posted in that other thread but you didnt want to know about it

that post referred to an app that does exactly what you want with the orchestrator service, i have disabled it some time ago and has NEVER renabled itself

..and again - you didn't really read my opening comment.

Any tool is needless and NOT wanted. especially when you have no clue how that tool works.

And this is no answer to my open question - "what service triggers the Usosvc so that service get again alive?"

And as I already told - actually, I already wrote a script by myself, killing all those services.

And still - the question is unanswered.

to post some tools my be comfy, but that's no solution.
