You disable them and then wonder why in post #481 why the update now button just shows you are up to date?
Sorry for my poor English, but I did not say or imply 'I wonder why' in post #481.

The point was that the commands in post #473 seemed to work at my end.

Disabling updates can use all sorts of issues. It is a bad plan.
Under the plan, I can still receive notifications given by my VBScript, which checks for updates every day, so it is not bad for me.

Agree, especially since the missing ones are security updates.
I did receive notification of the security updates, which have already been downloaded manually.

Your build number indicates that KB4048955 has already been installed.

There has been another cumulative update since then, KB4051963, which will change your build number to 16299.98

    Added later -
As pointed out by Josey below, cumulative update KB4054517 was issued on 11th December 2017. It will further raise your build number to 16299.125.

Yes, my Windows Update MiniTool found it.

    Matthew,

If your update checking tool found KB4054517 and you installed it, you will neither find nor need KB4051963, KB4048955.

But it should have found KB4051963 during the interim period between KB4051963 being issued on 27/28/29 November and KB4054517 being issued on 11/12 December.

For the reference, to completely disable checking for Windows Updates.

Remove "SoftwareDistribution" and create a nonexistent shortcut to it, checking for updates will fail.
    Code:
    taskkill /im TiWorker.exe /f
    net stop wuauserv /y
    rd "%WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution" /s /q
    mklink /d "%WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution" "X:\SoftwareDistribution"

Yes, some people do not want any updates, but I wonder, if even installing updates manually would work.
