Hello folks, am not as super technical as you all here.
Just found this posts and is what I have been looking for, to disable automatic update, install and reboot.
I download the updates with offline down loader and install, update and reboot at my time due to the type
    of work I do.

I prefer the Option Two at the beginning of the original post. This is the desktop reg download
My question is, how would I make sure it works. I have applied the "Never Notify . . . ". I have restarted
and moved on. There is no indicator the reg app is active. Message #404 kinda make me feel uneasy.
I sure would like to be sure it is working in some way.

    Thanks.
    Hello caxtin, :)

I'm afraid the only true way to test and know is that a Windows Update doesn't get automatically downloaded and installed when available until you manually "Check for updates" or click on "Install".

Another option to help is to set your active hours for when not to restart the computer during to finish installing an update.

My VBScript automatically notified me of four available updates on March 15.
Windows Update showed no available updates until I manually clicked on 'Check for updates' on March 21, because I use metered connections.

    Message #404
Hiyya caxtin I hope Brink doesn't mind me butting in but that is something I get quite a lot when I am using my mobile broadband particularly and is just a page not found message I usually fix that with a link the page again or reboot the modem and/or reboot the machine

Do you mean metered connections make it impossible to download them automatically?

Correct, having a metered connection will affect everything that downloads automatically. You will always be able to manually do so though.

Hello Ronny, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Yes, you could use Option 3 and any one of the other options to disable automatic updates to be able to manually install or hide the updates instead.

Thank you for having responded to me
Anyway I remember I had tried with option three and option two but the windows update they reinstall driver updates alone

So to prevent windows update from installing the drivers, I must first configure the automatic updates and make the choice 2 and then I have to choose the three and four options right ?

The best way to prevent unwanted updates is to completely disable automatic updates for Windows Update.

This way you can hide the updates you don't want, and manually install the ones you do.
