Do you think that we are hijacking Brink's tutorial here? Why not go to my tutorial?

Option 3 no longer works in Windows 11.
Option 2 still works with differences in the UI - see this thread -

I disabled updates in win10 pro x64 some while ago and now I cannot turn them back on. I've tried all the measures listed in the first post as admin and none work. I cannot change the security settings in the 2 update services which are locked which, presumably is whythe advised measures don't work. Any suggestions welcome.

Ian,I dutifully followed all the methods shown in the first post of this thread 'How to etc'.

Matthew, I wish I could remember but it involved a battle with permissions and took me a while just after I'd swapped to Win 10 before Covid I think. I've been manually updateing since then. I also remember doing something to prevent MS turning it on again! One gets a bit forgetful at 81.

If you used the Group Policy Editor, go back in and see what you changed relating to Windows Updates.

I've been using Group Policy to disable automatic updates for years and only update manually every several months. I did a fresh Windows 20h2 install in June last year and only updated manually once in December. But today I came back only to find out my PC completely shut down on its own. Upon booting Windows is already installing updates. After it's done I went to check the version. It's 19042.1466, so January update has been installed. I checked Group policy and Configure Automatic Updates is set to disabled as it's always been.

I disabled update service with Wu10Man for now. But it only lasts a few days before restarting service again. I use Windows Store from time to time it relies on the service so it's not a good method.

I can confirm Group policy method is no longer effective at least since the December update. Are there any more ways I can take back control of Windows Updates and my PC, so it won't do something like shutting down on its own randomly to force an update? Thanks.

If the options in this tutorial no longer work, consider the following:
