I continue to use Option 3 from the first page of this thread, as I have been doing since first finding it a couple of years ago. It works for me just fine on two computers, my only wish is that it would stop Windows Defender update downloads and installations as well. I use the companion RegEdit utility to prevent Windows Automatic Maintenance, although I rescind the edit and let Maintenance run every couple of months. I don't know whether Auto Maintenance is required, or a good idea, when Windows Updates come along, but when I turn the RegEdit off to allow updates, I turn the Maintenance-kill one off too. I have also found that O&O's 'ShutUp10' O&O ShutUp10 -Free antispy tool for Windows 10 is useful in determining what any Windows updates do to override and reset any privacy/security settings. That utility guides you through general Windows 10 setup steps having to do with privacy settings, which you may or may not want to change.

This option seven is often recommended although I don't use it.
I have tried before forcing the 2004 update. It gave me some weird errors, but it apparently prevented me to look for updates thru the usual windows 10 menu. I might give it another try.

If WAU Manager does not work, try this: Using CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update

The above scripts work on Windows 10 Home.

I'm looking at option three and at the date of the initial post, and can't help but think "this cannot work". Isn't the inability to turn off updates one of the major complaints about Windows 10, or am I missing anything?

    Hello Octopuss,

Since you have Windows 10 Pro, you are able to use the group policy setting in option 2 or 3 to disable automatic updates.

Otherwise, option 7 is a good effective option for all editions.

I had no idea this existed, possibly because of so many threads about the same and related things.

So this won't prevent me from checking for updates manually?

Correct. You will still be able to manually check for and install updates.

    Nothing.

But WUMgr is based on it.

(Win10man) & (WUMiniTool/WUMgr) are not doing exactly the same jobs.

used the Windows update minitool 07.01.2020 to disable Windows update. the bottom info section never stated anything. how to check if it works or not ? my settings / Windows updates are still paused. I would like to completely disable the Windows and Drivers updates ( done through control panel / system ). thanks.
