Minutes ago, I selected "Disable the built-in Windows Automatic Updates and use only WAU Manager", and then I could not open Windows Update. Now I have deselected it, and I still cannot open Windows Update. How can I bring back Windows Update?

    Hello Matthew,

Just to verify, did you click on the "Save and Apply" button after unchecking the box?

Normally, Windows Update should still be open when checked or not, but will just have a red message at the top when checked letting you know an update policy has been configured.

Last night, I restored Windows to October 1. Then Windows Update MiniTool found no updates except driver updates.
This morning, I undid the restoration. Then Windows Update MiniTool found all available updates, and Windows Updates can be opened now. I don't know why.

    Great news, but odd.

    1. wumgr program automatically removes ''Windows Update'' settings section when I use ''Disable Automatic Updates''.

    (i) Windows Update Available

(ii) Disabling Auto Update in wumgr

    (iii) Windows Update Unavailable

    2. I used WAU Manager initially with perfect settings :

but ... two times It was overtaken by the Native Windows Update API & I was reported that the updates are installed & Restart is due!

( DISM ScanHealth & SFC report is all good but after all its an in-place upgrade from Win 8 SL to Win 10 SL. 1909 )

    Thanks. ...

P.S. wumgr is a very thorough program in its approach, reach, options & reliability. It uses Native Windows Update API. So, one can at least use it to undo corruptions made by other things, up to some level

I used options 1 (Wu10man) and turned off updates. 1 week later, I'm getting this.. and now when I try to run Wu10man, I get an error that it can't even start..

    Ideas?

Defender keeps popping this up over and over again. I'm sure this is something to do with windows update trying to update..

report the issue to the creator of Wu10man here in github
    see if someone there responds
or check existing issues that were closed

So, after reading guides and pages of posts: is there a reliable and simple way to inhibit windows update until I decide to run it again? :)

I have a intel core 2nd gen laptop and update 2004 resolved an annoying issue I had with the HDMI output. I don't want to face this problem again :)

Since this laptop is just a media center, there's no need for all those security patches and stuff that MS pushes eveytime :)

Do you connect to the internet to download or upload any media? If so, the security patches are necessary even if there is no apparent value to you. Once a month.

This option seven is often recommended although I don't use it.
