Windows 10: Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10
I activated Windows 10 Enterprise builds 10565 64 bit, I switched the local account to a Microsoft account and I activated the "Insider Preview Build" (Fast ring).
If I join in the Windows registry this reg file
to manually check all the updates, I can still download the new builds?
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
Yes, you will still be able to manually check for and install updates, including new builds.
Hello Brink and thanks for the nice Tutorial.
In my previous windows installations I have always set auto update to notify, and i always installed all the updates when I have time and closed all my work.
From my experience with windows I have always noticed a degradation in performance and disk usage with time and those many updates microsoft send, bloating our disk and system configuration.
My question is: wouldn't it be better to leave the system just as is? Now in my PC everything works fine, should we need all those updates?
We are always afraid by security purposes, but are they real?
I guess if this machines runs in a governative environment, or business, or large network company I could understand the point; but if we are professionals or home users, even always connected to Internet, should we update our systems?
Thanks for your advice
Yep, the updates are recommended to install to help keep your Windows patched and security updated.
If you like, it may be best to wait at least a week before installing them to see if there are any issues reported by the public.
What kind of threats microsoft covers with the updates?
Something that even professional users should be aware?7
The updates could cover all sorts of new features, issues, bugs, found security risks, etc...
i 'm the only user and i'm the administrator
i set the Windows Update service to Disable
but windows 10 re-enable it (manual trigger )after 1 day or more
do you know if is the task scheduler to re-enable it? i want to stop it
Could have been an update that reset it.
should block it (no more re-enabled) ? should not check for update anymore?
Select (dot) Disabled
at the top, click/tap on OK
, and go to step 8
below. (see screenshot below)
i have set 2 and disabled the service
It could have. I've noticed that Windows Update has been pretty aggressive about checking for updates, but I have not been able to track down what's been enabling it again.
