Is there a way to check the integrity of the registry? I've run the sfc /scannow and it comes out no integrity violations. Also could it be because I am a local account administrator instead of using a microsoft account administrator? But then again it probably shouldn't be showing me that it is successful adding to the registry.
You could try creating a new .reg file, copy the contents of the .reg file from the tutorial into the new .reg file, and see if the new .reg file successfully mergers.
This will at least let you know if you're having an issue with only the downloaded .reg or all .reg files.
Okay I opened notepad, copied the contents of your .reg file (the add the message default) into it, and saved it as new.reg. I clicked it, when through the prompts, and it stated it was successfully added to the registry like before. And it did add it. I can see the message in settings now. So it works.
Maybe because I gave it a much shorter name no hyphens etc?
Okay as an experiment, I edited the Remove Windows 10 Creators Update message .reg file that you have. I simply opened it in notepad, renamed it and saved it as again.reg, clicked it and it took effect and removed it from settings. So it does work.
Is it the long name with hyphens being shortened to a single name or is it just because i edited it in any way?
Okay, so as a final test, i opened the add creator message reg file and just saved it as it is, no changes to the name.. And it took effect. So it is because I modified it by saving it i guess.
Okay I got it.
I tried it again downloading it to the desktop and clicking the file and this time it added it.
I tried it again but this time clicked it in the firefox download area and though the prompts indicated success, it failed.
I think the reason it didn't work before is because out of habit I was inititating the reg file installation from the firefox download arrow (with it being downloaded to and installed from the desktop). When done like that, even though all the prompts are correct, and techically the reg file is on the desktop, it doesn't work.
It must be clicked on/installed directly from the desktop like your tutorial states. I normally install things all the time from the firefox download arrow area which references the desktop because that is where I always save files.. to the desktop... because it is a little faster. But in this case, it fails.
Ah, ok. I was starting to think it was some sort of permission or access issue, but yeah, it's best to download to the desktop and merge from there instead.

So doing this removes this particular message. I presume that will remove any future messages using this facility also? Maybe some of those will be important??
