    I have a host of folders that refuse to change the template type to Music - they always switch back to general. I've looked up and down at the folder security, nothing seems odd, I'm owner and have full control. I've even tried creating new folders, and as soon as I change the name to conform it reverts. Any ideas?

    Try turning off auto-discovery. In the tool I recently posted, you would select "Make All Folders Generic" and then apply that change. Then set your Music folders to Music and, hopefully, problem solved.

    Thanks for the suggestion, but I avoid third-party stuff

    It's just a script that just pulls together in one place registry settings for Explorer views that have been discussed here over the years. You can apply the "Make All Folders Generic" setting yourself:

    Code:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]
    "FolderType"="Generic"
    You can substitute the word "Generic" for "NotSpecified". Same thing.

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

    Well, you convinced me to go the registry route but I ended up going whole hog and did Shawn's full reset thing, and all is fine now after some modifications to my preferences.

    Thank you both!
