I noticed a problem with this depending on the filename, it can cause the Powershell to not complete as a result. I wanted to pass it along in case there is room for improvement here, as some files will fail to calculate altogether as a result of their filename.

In my example, I am working with a file named as follows and able to replicate the failure:

    Test's Test Collection - Test Edition (USA).7z

This occurs with both individual hash calculations as well as attempting to perform all. Please see the following screenshots:

This is what the failed output looks like from a Show All Hashes

This is from a single hash calculation, it doesn't matter which one is selected they all fail the same

Output of the errors in text:
The string is missing the terminator: '.
    + CategoryInfo : ParserError: (:) [], ParentContainsErrorRecordException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : TerminatorExpectedAtEndOfString

    At line:1 char:75
    + ... -literalpath 'D:\Test's Test Collection - Test Edition (USA).7z' -alg ...
    + ~
Missing property name after reference operator.

    Thank you

    Hello @boktai1000,

It looks like the parentheses special characters in the name caused the error.

I've updated the Add_Hash_to_context_menu.reg file to work with these now. You can just download and merge the updated REG file to update your context menu to fix this.

Thanks for the quick follow up! I went to go download from the original post, but it seems the download link currently leads to the image and not the registry file if I'm not mistaken!

Just wanted to give a heads up there, and happy to give it for a spin after :) I did want to note that I had multiple other files with parenthesis that seemed to complete their hash just fine, but if you give my test filename a whirl and see if the provided command is able to hash and complete successfully it should be good. I am happy to test it on my end to make sure the characters are properly escaped and that it completes successfully.

    Regards

Download works now, but unfortunately it seems like the "Hash" context menu is broken - here's how it looks currently:

Previously, it had a sub-menu (and I believe was capitalized to "Hash" instead of "hash" which looked a bit more integrated/professional).

    Thanks again and apologies!

    No apologies needed.

it looks like I fat fingered a line out while editing last.

It's now fixed and ready to go.
