As I've already mentioned, I recently had an issue with a corrupted Windows image, and in case I forgot to mention it, the repair was successful; SFC and DISM both report that no issues can be found. The only remaining issue I have regarding this topic is how to interpret the contents of the log files. Could someone direct me to a place where I might find some information regarding the logs? It's probably not important, but it would be nice to get a vague idea of what was wrong with the image.

You need the correct build but if you downloaded from Microsoft it will be 10240 (unless you are an insider and specifically requested the latest preview build in which case it will be 10565).

You can check the version as follows:
    • mount the ISO and note and note the letter. In my case it is k
    • From elevated cmd prompt dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:k:\sources\install.wim
    • If there is more than one index pick the one you want dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:k:\sources\install.wim /index:1

The ISO available from this source contains a clean "install.wim" file. Tech Bench

Used in conjunction with the dism command line instructions for repairing your OS when dism reports it cannot find the necessary files to fix a corrupted file(s). Once repaired you should have dism output indicating a successful repair. The ISO I used was the win 10 64 bit. Good wishes.

Ok first things first, I live in Belgium and I run a dutch version of Windows 10 64bit
I download the iso file from Tech Bench but when I run DISM it's get's stuck on 40% and after 15 minutes it doesn't do anything anymore. My hdd led doesn't blink either. I stopped it.

When I run wiminfo like you said and it says this:

    Code:

Tech Bench just gives me a technical preview??? I'm running windows 10 with latest updates (version 10586)

Before I tried the iso file I download from the media creation tool but it gives me a install.esd file in the sources folder. I also read that this can't be used for a DISM operation....

Right on both counts. The Tech Bench ISO does say "Technical Preview" in the wim description (10586 now) and I've never got MCT esd to work for DISM (although others say it works it never has for me).

The MCT aslo says "Technical Preview" for the ESD incidentally - there is nothing to worry about there with the description.

I don't know why your DISM would stop at 40% but it appears you are trying to use the correct ISO. The version, creation date and description are the same as mine (only different language).

You could try downloading it again in case it is corrupt in some way.

FYI these are the ISO's I downloaded recently: TechBench

I think how long it takes depends on what it has to repair. The Tutorial says it can take up to a couple of hours.

I'm getting really pissed with all the sfc /scannow throwing errors even in clean installs. For example: I did a clean install yesterday. I mean: CLEAN. I erased the whole C drive, just to start from scratch (as I was coming from an upgrade) and did the whole process in this order:

    - Install Windows.
    - Get all the updates.

Then, sfc says that thre are some mistakes. Are you kidding me? On a clean install with all the system updated? Really? Come on...

Edit: DISM gets errors qhen trying to restore, and even if I use an updated image of Windows (mounted or in an USB drive) it keeps telling that is not able to repair it.

Note: There are log files to help you and others troubleshoot dism issues,

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

It is advised to delete those .log files first, then run the commands and post the .log(s) as .txt files in forum..

Yep, you're right. And thank you. Next time I'll do it. I tryed the DISM thing using the TechBench iso and worked. Before that, I tried to solve the problem using my USB unit, and my other iso (which was an official one but not from the TechBench site), but both didn't work. The only way to fix it was using the DISM and the TechBench iso. Why? I have no clue. I'm on Windows 10 Pro.

    We'll see.
