    Hi Everyone,

Sorry to weigh in on this thread so late, but my problem with this infamous error 0x800f081f started right after installing the latest of Microsoft's cumulative update KB4016240. My experience now is telling me that whenever Microsoft pulls out one of those, they fix a lot of other issues and break something else.

Before going any further, I have to say that all the credit of what I am going to say goes to "Jessica Deen on Technet" who wrote an article on "How to fix Windows' error code: 0x800f081f". Here is the URL:

How to fix Windows Error Code 0x800f081f Jessica Deen on Technet

In that article there is a link to download a .cab file directly to your C:\ root directory and then run in an elevated Powershell command prompt the following:

    Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /source:C:\ /LimitAccess

I tried it and it worked for me very efficiently. It is worth noting though that while downloading the .cab file one might have an UAC prompt saying that you don't have permission to download into this directory (C:\ root directory) even when you are in admin account. The reason, mind you, is because the .cab file is in the form of a compressed one — 7zip or WinRar depending on which of the two, one is using. In order to overcome this hurdle, I downloaded the .cab file to the "Download" folder and extracted it to to the C:\ root directory. Thereafter, one can run the aforementioned line.

I am just hoping that might help someone else facing the same issue.

PS- To anyone reading this post, please don't take it under consideration. It is totally misleading and doesn't have anything to do with this thread. It was my mistake!!!

    Hi,

Thanks for that. I just copied the cab file to c:\ and that worked just fine.

There was a different fix posted somewhere.. can't recall exactly but involved deleting registry keys relating to Flight-signing...

Edit: found it... a more appropiate way of fixing:

    Hi,
@IronZorg89 : After installing the cab file and running the PS command line I restarted the machine. Windows had installed an update so I rebooted again.

Dism still reports the same error with regard to the source file not found etc.

    Am I missing something ?

    You installed .NET
You didn't do the questionable work-around for the dism Health scan not completing.

    Hi,

Yes, I do realize that now but how is it .NET pertinent to fixing the DISM error?
I did do the suggested workarounds as per @Kyhi 's link (a thread I participated in) and that too did not turn out to be successful.

I'm pretty certain my systems do not have any problem, I just wanted to make 100% sure.
Guess I can run DISM from a WinRe or PE environvonment but that does not solve the real issue, does it ?

PS: It seems to me that Jessica Green's sollution pertains to people have trouble installing .NET from PS which I haven't experienced any trouble with.

    Hi,

Thanks @Cliff S. Does it also work when a source is specified ?

I have tried every method outlined in Brink's tutorial without success.

I also tried this outdated procedure and that does not work either:
How to fix Windows Error Code 0x800f081f Jessica Deen on Technet

However, I did not try Cliff's registry edit because the DISM log seems to indicate it is having problems authenticating the 16184.1001, and since it is a preview build, that may be exactly the way MS wants DISM to behave. With that said, I will wait for the final release and see if that works properly. Please be advised I am not very knowledgeable in this area but I have tried (almost) every method without any success.

    Good luck,

    WOT

Hmmmm, can you give a bit to mount an iso and check, it work in any case with the online version of the command.
