Your question is not clear. What do you mean by repair.

A repair normally means repairing existing installation keeping all files intact including all programs.

There is also a recovery i e. you reinstall OS optionally keeping existing data but not programs).

Finally, there is a clean install where OS is completely reinstalled from scratch (pretty much same as a recovery not keeping data).

Of all those options, only the last one can be done using dism from a usb installation drive.

I wonder if Dism can fix itself?

I have a system its actually a fresh install, and it has been unable to install a CU from windows update or standalone installation.

I noted the install failed really quickly, within 5-10 seconds.

Started looking into the sfc and dism stuff as that what everything suggests as a fix, and I eventually after about 4 hours got to the point where I discovered dism scanhealth fails.

Since scanhealth is part of restorehealth then that obviously can never work.

The error is an error code 2 saying missing file.

I check the dism log and there is multiple missing files which all follow an attempted wim mount in the temp folder, the temp path is valid on the system, so this is a totally bizarre situation. Somehow it seems at a guess dism cannot mount anything and I assume dism is used on updates hence them failing.

The install is pretty much clean its a temporary install, I could just wipe but I never like leaving problems unresolved as it means they can come back again and wont know how to fix.

    Hello,

Just to confirm, did you already run the DISM RestoreHealth command? It's the command that actually does the repair. The others just check.
