    Hey guys!

I had to restart my PC today using the power button after I ran into an issue with the USB controller stopped working resulting in no keyboard nor mouse. I managed to RDP into the PC from my mobile phone and thought I was able to restart my PC successfully. But the screen never came on again showing 'No signal'. So in the end, I had to shut it down by holding the physical power button depressed for a couple of seconds.

After this all seemed good and the PC and Windows started up just fine with no issues. Still, I figured it might be a good idea to check my disks as well as running sfc /scannow to make sure I didn't end up with any corrupt files as a result of the "hard" shutdown.

No disk issues found but running sfc /scannow gave me the normal message corrupt files were found that couldn't be fixed. I then tried Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth as well as Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:L:\sources\install.wim:1 with and without the /limitaccess switch but still no go. Ended at about 90% throwing error 3017 and telling me the requested operation failed and that a system reboot is required to roll back changes made.

Attached are both the CBS.log as well as the dism.log. Did find some info about a file called storport.sys in the CBS log. Not really sure what that file/driver does though let alone how to fix it if it indeed is corrupt.

I'm on Win 10 1803 Build 17134.286 with all the latest MS fixes applied as of today.

Many thanks in advance for any tips on how to sort this one!

    Hello WebMaximus,

Usually when DISM can't fix it so you can successfully use SFC, you can do a repair install instead.

You logs show the storport.sys driver is corrupted.

    Thanks for the prompt reply!

Not really that tempted though performing an action where I risk loosing all my installed apps etc. Then I could just as easily do a complete, fresh installation of Win 10.

Will try to figure out if there's any way I can manually replace this %windir%\System32\storport.sys file because I found two versions of it on my system when searching all over C: for it.

You will not loose your apps and programs with the repair install @Brink linked to. I also recommend regular image backups as well.

Thanks for setting me straight. Was a bit too quick reading what it actually said last time I visited the link.

Unfortunately though I just learned my ISO must be the same edition and build as my current installation which isn't the case. My current installation does originate from my ISO but has since been upgraded to new builds multiple times.

Too bad. Would have loved to try that approach!

All you need is the 1803 ISO (still downloadable if needed). The current cumulative update will be reapplied after repair no issues with that.

I actually just came to think of that myself that maybe I can download a new ISO based on my current build. That is brilliant

    Will get right to it.

The current cumulative update will not be on any downloaded ISO. Windows update will download it after you repair and check for updates.
