    Is there an Edge shortcut that can be used in SendTo?

    I use IE but might, once in a blue moon, want to open a URL in Edge instead. I generally do this if there is a problem with the website & I want to eliminate the possibility that is simply dislikes IE.

    I have tried variants of the shortcuts given in the tutorial & in its subsequent posts by adding %1 to their Target entries but none of them open the url of the .URL file being used for the test.

    Hello Denis,

    I'm not aware of a way yet either for "Send to".

    I tested the tutorial below to add "Open with" to the context menu of .url files, but Microsoft Edge can't be selected there either.

    You are able to select Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox from "Open with" though, so you could set Microsoft Edge as your default browser and use Open with when you want to use a different browser.

    It's not much of a workaround though since you only wanted to rarely open them in Microsoft Edge.

    Thanks for letting me know.

    [I had tried that other tutorial while I was fishing around. On the first occasion it worked but has not done so since - I'll add a note to that post rather than here.]

    SendTo shortcut to open URLs in legacy Edge

    Brink,

    This solution applies to legacy Edge only
    For modern Edge, see post #27 below.

    I have now managed to set up an Edge item in SendTo.
    - If I drop a .url file on it, the link opens in Edge.
    - If the passed file is not a url then no action is taken.
    - I've tested it with a few dozen web addresses so far and I haven't managed to break it yet.

    The file is OpenUrlInEdge.vbs containing

    Code:
    Set wshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    PassedURL = WScript.Arguments.Item(0)
    Set oShellLink = wshShell.CreateShortcut(PassedURL)
    URLTarget = oShellLink.TargetPath
    If Right(PassedURL, 3)="url" Then WshShell.Run chr(34) & "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" & Chr(34) & " /c start microsoft-edge:" & URLTarget, 0

    and I put a shortcut to it in SendTo in the normal manner.

    So, I can now do what I wanted which is to use IE for routine work with the ability to conveniently open a url shortcut in Edge if I chose to do so.

    Thanks Shawn because I used the Edge listing originally and didn't know how to put that listing back.

    I found Option 3 the easiest method except I went - Start > Microsoft Edge > right click > more > pin to taskbar.

    I find this way faster and so easiest way of reversing the process
