Editing encrypted files on a different computer
This is a very old thread, but I'm hoping someone will see this and has an answer, because I've scoured the Internet and haven't been able to find it.
I have encrypted files on computer A using EFS. I sync those files with computer B using Syncthing. I have installed the EFS certificates from computer A onto computer B and both computers use Windows Pro and NTFS.
If I edit a file that was encrypted on computer A on computer B and save it, will it be encrypted with the original encryption certificate from computer A or with one from computer B? I'm hoping that the answer is "it's always re-encrypted with the same encryption credentials," because I edit files on both computer, but if not, does anyone know of another encryption program that is as flexible as EFS? I don't want to create separate containers I have to mount as drives, as with Veracrypt, if I don't have to.
