So this is what happens when I change the location. Is this supposed to happen?
It appears something is causing a not responding issue with your "D" drive.

That is a lot to transfer over as well.

Does it eventually continue to copy over without the not responding if left sitting for a while?

It's mainly from one folder that is that big. Yes, it does eventually copy over that's when it shows that it's a sharing point and not the new location point for documents. I'm really not sure what could be messing with the properties page during the process though. Would it be better to just make a symbolic link for that one folder?

In your situation, it may be best/easier to create a symbolic link.

Okay, thank you! I was originally going to do this but then I saw you could move the entire documents section. I'll will try this out.

    Hello Brink!

I want to store my game and my mods/cc/saves and all that on my external harddrive (F:) to make room for all the custom content. (And/or make a symbolic link? I want to store it all on the external drive but thats exactly what you do when you make a symbolic link, if I understood it all right)

I read somewhere in you posts or tutorial to keep in mind that having the game and files on an external drive can make the game load up slower. But what about when I'm actually in the game - will the game be more slow/laggy?

Whats the best bet for me if I want to have a lot of CC/mods and have my game run smoothly?
Thank you for all your support!

    Hello Mindy, and welcome.

You could do that, but I would also be concerned about game performance if it's off an external drive.

You might do a small test with one game first to see how it performs before doing a full move.

I forgot to mension I already have the actual game and packs on the external. But I still have the "Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4" folder with all the saves, mods and CC on my (C:) drive.

After some reading i figured out that the game actually reads it from there, so you can't just move the "Electronic arts" folder to the external drive since the sims game will just create a new location like it in the place where it was before on the (C:) drive - and then the game will run without the mods/cc/saves since you basically just took them out. So I would need to change where the game reads all that from.
How do i do that? And I am nervous about the game performance after moving the CC/mods/saves to external drive, will moving my Electronic arts game folder to the external affect the game performance, or is it just the actual games moved over (which i already moved over) that is affecting that?

In that case, you should be able to move your Documents folder to the external drive.

If the game doesn't recognize the new location, then you could create a symbolic link for the "Electronic Arts" folder from the external to inside the internal Documents folder to redirect it to the external location.

Is there any difference if you move the location of Documents folder on the first day you installed Windows 10 (before installing any other programs that will auto create files/folders in Documents folder) vs if you move the location of Documents folder at a later date (after installing programs that have already created files/folders in Documents folder)?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

It makes no difference when you move the folder since it redirects the old location to the new one.
