    Hello Gadart,

As long as you do step 6, it would be up to you if you wanted to or not.
    Hi Brink,
Thanks for tutorial. It's working great after did that.
But I have question about Downloads folder under username still have files showing there, same as files moved to new location.
I'm thinking of delete those, but after test it out, it seems those files are sync each other. If I deleted something in one of them, both places are gone. Little confuse about this!
PS: After did step 6, I saw disk size used indeed decrease in dive C.

Thanks in advance from your input.

    Hello @Jati,

As a test, if you move all the synced files to your Desktop temporarily, and then move them to the moved Downloads folder, do they still sync to the one under username?

    Just tested:
1- I moved all files in Downloads folder under username temporarily to new created folder on desktop, then all files in NEW location gone as well.
2- I moved some files (testing few files first before moving all) to NEW downloads folder location, then those files also shown back in folder under username as well.

I think, it does that vice versa, still SYNCING. That's good isn't it?

PS: I noted, after did test per your requested, I saw my amount of used in drive C increase back to amount that previously move to new location in another drive.

    Thanks!

It shouldn't be syncing with the old default location.

Did you have Downloads set to sync with OneDrive or some other service/program (ex: Google Drive) by chance?

If not, then you might restore the Downloads folder back to its default location, and try moving again in case something didn't go right.

Got OneDrive, but not autorun. Will try again.

    Thank you!

Followed the tutorial and moved the Downloads folder.
Still, any new download creates a new Downloads folder in user folder and saves itself there.
Is there any way to declare the "moved" Downloads folder as default ?

BTW, while copying files, the long filename appeared. If memory serves, this is coming since DOS days, happily uninterrupted. Is it 2019 or not ?

Hello abax2000, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Is this happening with downloads from a specific program, or any?

    Hi Brink.
Happened with both Chrome and Edge. I had to manually setup in these programs the download location.
Will this be the case with any other program?
Is there any (registry ?) remedy, following which any newly installed program will use the "moved" Downloads?

PS: "Downloads" is the first user folder that I try to move (as is the more harmless). My biggest concern is the behaviour for the other user folders (Documents, Music etc.)

When you move a user folder, Windows will automatically link the new location by default with the old location for reference.

However, it just depends on what the program references. Some will follow the link to the new location, and others won't and will have to have the path manually changed in the program's settings.

I use this, but it is pretty much the same thing like in the tutorial, just via registry.
    Code:
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}" /t REG_SZ /d "E:\Software\Temp\Downloads" /f
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" /v "{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}" /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d "E:\Software\Temp\Downloads" /f
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" /v "{7D83EE9B-2244-4E70-B1F5-5393042AF1E4}" /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d "E:\Software\Temp\Downloads" /f
