Where does Windows store the drive icon files? I changed my drive G: from an external USB drive to an internal HDD but the icon still shows the removable drive icon.

Hi.
Here are some other ideas, if you get tired of the dull Microsoft icons provided in the default .dll -

How to Change Drive Icons in Windows
Exact sizing of the new icon is rather important.

Lots of cool stuff over at W11 forums (1) Custom Icons for Windows 11 Thread (Folders, Dropbox, Google Drive, Podcasts, NVME Drive, Steam, Adobe) | Windows 11 Forum (elevenforum.com)
Where is the USB.ico file you used in the "After" screenshot?
@JCMacintosh: Thank for registry enteries.
I wanted to replace the Bitlocker padlock driver icon with standard drive icon.
This command had worked (Y is the driver letter of the desire to be replaced):
Reg.exe add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\Y\DefaultIcon" /v "" /t REG_SZ /d "%SytemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,8" /f
I realized that it was useless in recent days (I am using Windows 11 22H2. Probably caused by one of my tweaks).
I tried other solution:
Reg.exe add "HKCU\Software\Classes\Applications\Explorer.exe\Drives\Y\DefaultIcon" /v "" /t REG_SZ /d "%SytemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,8" /f
This did not work either. Back to researching... I found the solution of @JCMacintosh in here. This did not change either. But I learned from this site that the sub-key name should be Shell Icons, instead of "Shell MyIcons". I changed and succeeded. Bitlocker drive(s) is now displayed with the standard drive icon.
Reg.exe add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons" /v "164" /t REG_SZ /d "%SytemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,8" /f
Reg.exe add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons" /v "165" /t REG_SZ /d "%SytemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,8" /f
This is how i do mine
