1- It is not a bug, it is how Microsoft build UUP files, they choose to deliver winre.wim only
because technically, boot.wim is not required for WU upgrade process

2- A workaround already had been implemented in the original uup-converter-wimlib script
you just need to cooperate with the subsequent releases
Yes it is a bug! (at least for me it is)

boot.wim IS required because that one contains the WinPE image. We need the WinPE environment in order to being able to upgrade the OS correctly. We also need the setup applications, that are also included in the UUP upgrade files.

I can manually create an ISO Setup media from the UUP files, that will look exactly as a purchased DVD from the store. UUPtoISO does not take all the steps required to make the ISO exactly as it should look (or I want them to look). It will however work as a setup media, which is what we all want.

One other thing missing for instance is the support for using the created media as a recovery media. Currently UUPtoISO does NOT support this. It is an easy fix.

Also one other thing that annoys me a bit is that we ESD the Express packages, when we can capture all this straight into the install.wim.

There is a lot of things that can be improved in the scripts. I am currently working on my own project that will get all the images exactly as I want them to. Will also be adding support for full servicing, which help tremendously in the future.

Either way, I can confirm that UUPtoISO created 16179 ISO successfully.

boot.wim never get used in complete ESD upgrade process, winrw.wim (SafeOS) handle all that
that's why Microsoft Decided to cut off boot.wim, because the whole point of UUP is to reduce downloded size beween upgrades

recent uup-converter-wimlib does fix this, and recovery options are working correctly

    good luck with that :)

So you are saying that WinPE never gets used or is not included in the download files?

My upgrade files consist of WinPE, WinRE, Setup files, correct OS edition and architecture, all packages for the full Windows edition + optional packages including language packs.

WinPE as is has completely different configurations vs WinRE, also WinPE Setup has a completely different configuration than the two previous. All 3 share same files mostly, so yes no pint in having them duplicated over a bunch of WIMs. I don't know about everybody else, but my upgrade files has always had everything needed, except for the files that gets copied from the installed OS in UUP Express Upgrade. But once WU has done it's thing on current desktop, I have everything needed for creating a proper ISO.

I have not been checking out the latest scripts from original sources lately, so can't say what has been fixed and what not.

Are you one of the script authors? Have you been contributing to the scripts? Just wondering...

    Interesting!

Windows Defender marked UUPtoISO v2.2.0.0 as a threat. No other versions, including the latest are affected, but I uninstalled the "threat" and all is fine now. :)

I got this error too when I was reinstalling UUPtoISO and luckily didn't delete the files. Another false positive?

Yes I think it is a false positive, I can however not verify this as I don't have the files anymore nor do I have any other AV available at the moment to double check with.

It's only included in the traditional complete ESD file, but it's not used or even extracted from ESD file

what upgrade files exactly? you mean ISO?

I think you should check your facts before making such claims. Read the scripts and you see what they do, in particular ESDtoISO scripts.

After that check both ESD upgrade files and UUP upgrade files.

And finally open up an OEM Microsoft Windows 10 Setup DVD and tell me exactly what is where and where it would come from if you only have ESD or/and UUP upgrade files available.

It's all there, and it is used, everything has it's purpose.

HINT: install.esd from ESD upgrade is NOT the same as install.wim or install.esd in a setup media. They are very very different.

I was talking about the upgrade process through WU, i didn't mean the ISO created with script

UUP files lacks both boot.wim images, the edition file (e.g. Professional_en-us.esd) only contain iso layout and winre.wim plus the install.wim metadata
