It would be nice if you could include the zip as an option in case someone wants to install it elsewhere (or doesn't like .exe).
I can include ZIP download option but it would only include the same EXE installer. We had to think about path remaining as short as possible, therefore there's no option to change default C:\UUP setup folder.

Also, forcing the setup folder being on %systemdrive% where also %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download is located, users can instead of Copy & Paste UUP files to UUP\UUPs folder (which can take 10+ minutes) simply Cut & Paste instead; when Cut & Paste is used within same drive, nothing will be physically moved but instead the files will only be flagged with new address. Cut & Paste takes seconds and is "SSD friendly" because nothing will be physically moved.

The instructions are not quite correct. During installation and in the readme it says

In fact this leaves the start menu shortcuts and if you run uninstall from start menu it fails with unins000.exe not found.

The uninstaller works fine (but is not signed).
Thanks for pointing that out before I rewrite tutorial! I'll fix this before tool is officially posted in tut.

Another detail I have to add to instructions is that UUP\UUPs folder must be emptied before using uninstaller which can only uninstall same files it installed.

Are these 2 AVs? LOL! Never heard of them! Better look at the list a bit lower where we find AVs like Kaspersky and Bitdefender.
In this kind of stuff full transparency is the only way. As soon as z3r010 informed me about that I knew I have to post it, regardless if it has any meaning or not.

    Fantastic job guys!

The main stumbling block, I find, is copying a 7.x GB load of small files which invariably seem to report errors in copying and end up with perhaps 4.x GB saved after copying for a considerable length of time. This hardly inspires confidence that the process will produce a good ISO at the end.

To avoid any lengthy copying, save disk space, and to provide a minimally short path to the files in the SoftwareDistribution\Download\ subfolder, why not just subst the UUP subfolder to the B:\ drive, since nobody today, surely, uses 2 floppies any more, and the drive letter is usually up for grabs? (of course the work is really being done directly from the SoftwareDistribution\Download\ subfolder via the alias of B:\ ) Then the UUPtoISO utility can point to B:\ for the UUP source files.

I'm sure there must be some flaw in this since you have not thought of this already.

No flaw, cannot speak for Slicendice but at least I didn't even think that option. It would be doable although as you know, the UUP folder in %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download is different in each build / feature upgrade.

Anyway, did you see my previous post, an extract of it here:

    @Kari,

Minor confusion on my end. If I use the cut/paste before restart, won't that mess things up?

We must have pasted at the same time: I had just read

UUP to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 Build Upgrade Files-2017_03_12_19_16_491.png

    Where it states:

"1. Copy UUP upgrade files to folder C:\UUP\UUPs"

We had talked about automating the process and ways to identify the relevant SoftwareDistribution\Download\ subfolder that contains the UUP files before, and I also suggested how we might determine if the UUP files were fully downloaded for UUPtoISO to work properly - of course these are probably moving goalposts that will continue to change.

My thought about the subst alias is that it involves no transfer or deletion, and is transient and will only exist for the console while active.

The other approach, which was used by abbodi1406 and @RGAdguard in their utility, is to leave the source files in their original location and simply paste the PATH to the source files as a user response after launching the script.

Also, for anyone who is creating the ISO prior to the Windows Update/UUP restart of the OS, leaving the source files at their original location also prevents needing to cut and paste them back before the Restart.

I intend to explain this when I rewrite the tutorial. Please keep on your minds fellow esteemed geeks that until that this is all experimental :)

That being said, it's like this:

    • In express (differential) upgrade the size of UUP folder is over 7 GB when everything is extracted (even canonical upgrade UUP folder is about 3 GB)
    • I see no point in Copy & Pasting the files to another folder just to make an ISO, on my ailing laptop it takes closer to 20 minutes. Instead I Cut & Paste in a few seconds
    • When done, I have an ISO image to mount and upgrade using it, I don't need to use Windows Update > Restart now
    • If I prefer Windows Update > Restart now upgrade method, or if I even when upgrading using ISO but for some reason I want to preserve UUP files, have them present in Windows.old folder after the upgrade, I simple revert my Cut & Paste, this time back to original folder in %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download (of course in this case I carefully noted the folder name before first Cut & Paste to UUP\UUPs folder!)

I just renamed the appropriate folder in Software Distribution to UUPs and pointed the convertor to that location. This was all well and fine. The convertor did its job and produced the ISO. Then the problem came. I tried to rename the UUPs folder back to its original name and I got an error. I do not remember what it was but the end results was that the UUPs folder and all the files vanished. It was an idea that produced mixed results.
