Didn't really see much of a size difference. My UUP files came in at 2.9GB and the ESD is right around 3.0GB.
Of course the install.esd file in ESD upgrade method is about the same size than SoftwareDistribution folder content in UUP upgraded Windows 10. That's the idea, install.wim is essentially the same than UUP upgrade files.

The size difference can be seen if you compare the combined size of downloaded UUP files with size of $WINDOWS.~BT folder in an ESD upgraded machine: that folder can be up to 5.5 GB against round 3 GB SoftwareDistribution folder in UUP upgraded machine.

Not much difference in size for me either. Perhaps it depends how much has changed since your current build.

Thanks for this! Highly appreciated. Worked really great. Finally I can keep making the ISOs again

HINT: If you accidentally upgraded the OS before creating the ISO from the ESD-files, then go to C:\Windows.old\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download instead of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. If you do a full clean up of the C-drive then the files are lost forever.

Hi Slicendice, welcome to Ten Forums. Nice to see fellow Finns here!

The warning at the beginning about UUP upgrade files disappearing if this procedure is not done before the upgrade itself is there for a simple reason I just explained in another thread. Quoting that post:

The warning is there as part of my "better safe than sorry" policy. I'd rather not include something like "No worries if you forgot to make ISO, after upgrade files can still be found in Windows.old" in tutorial, then get replies like "Thanks for nothing! Can't find them anymore. It's your fault that I got no ISO!".

    Kari,

Used this method to create the ISO for 15014, then went to test in a brand new VM. And I get the following:

UUP to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 Build Upgrade Files-winx-ip-15014-vm-will-not-boot.png

Going to try to use it as an upgrade .ISO next in one of the existing VMs.

Screenshot is from Generation 2 VM (UEFI / GPT) which has Secure Boot enabled and possibly wrong boot order, set to boot from NIC instead of DVD.

Disable Secure Boot, check that boot order shows DVD on top, HDD next, NIC last. Now don't forget to press a key when it boots to start setup from ISO.

    Should boot normally now.

    EDIT:

Sorry, boot order seems to be correct. Just disable the Secure Boot.
