    Great tut!

After many days of headaches I have 16288.1 and the ISO. I did it post upgrade from 16281.1000 but all the files were in C:\Windows.old

Hi folks, to any who still want to use System image from within windows 10.
the problem reported by me and many others, which started in build 16226,
has been solved in build 16288.
System image once again does what it always did before build 16226.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Regards Bernie
As we have stated many times now, system image backup is a deprecated feature i.e. it is to be removed eventually. RS4 is probably last release with it.

It is not so much you cannot use it, but the fact that MS are not going to support it any more. MS advise using 3rd Party tools, which regulars here mostly agree with and recommend use of Macrium Reflect Free as a superior and well maintained alternative.

Really bad idea from MS. With File History they had an automated backup system superior to Win 7 implementation, they improved it with Win 8.1 Refresh My PC (should've been in the GUI properly rather than CLI) and now this....

Are they abandoning Volume Shadow Copy Service for Server OS? I wouldn't have thought so, but then I've been out of the loop on Server since Server 2003.

IMO the system image backup has always been a basic tool and unreliable. MRF has never let me down, and is faster, smaller images, and far more flexible. The SIB in Winows has not been developed since Windows 7, and if anything went backwards in 8.1 with intro of FHB, as you could not image particular files and folders anymore - all or nothing.

Regarding Refresh my PC, I never use it, as Windows 10 allows you to do Repair Upgrades keeping EVERYTHING. It is a pity this option is not main GUI and needs as iso or installation drive.

Re. shadow copy service - no idea but I doubt it.

That is false positive, the installer is 100% safe.
Have you reported to antivirus companies about false positive?

Still 22 products out of 64 reports that installer contains trojan/suspicious files at VirusTotal

Using Process Explorers VirusTotal check on running UUP-file gives 43 out 65 products.

No, MS is not abandoning Volume Shadow Copy service. It is essential for anything that needs to be backed up while the system is using the files to be backed up.

Windows system image backup is extremely limiting, and I am very happy if they remove it completely. There are so much better alternatives out there.

File History is kind of good, but it is still extremely basic and limiting. Many times, when it really matters, it does not work as intended, and it can't restore any files at all. As @cereberus said, it's all or nothing, which is very bad in my opinion.

For simple user file backups a scheduled Robocopy script is more than enough. You are in full control of what to backup and what to leave out. For full system images, Macrium Reflect Free is the NR ONE and the Home or Pro versions are even better, if one needs the more advanced features!

FWIW, I also am a happy MRF user. What it seems you are forgetting is that the 'average Joe' can have this simple system running and it is not complex to create a snapshot. MRF is far more challenging, especially in terms of recovery.

Yes, I agree that the full snapshot should be browseable, but this is where Refresh image trumped repair installation, it was faster but required you to create the image at the CLI.

If VSS is being retained as you say, it would be something tangible for MS to improve rather than all this 3D Creator BS they keep harping on about. I don't want to tell my story, I just want to painlessly recover my PC should something go wrong!

Hi Jarmo, nice to meet other Finns here at Ten Forums!

Yes, I have been in contact with those AV makers giving false positive, and only recently found out that the issue is not our tool or its installer but the original WimLib script it contains.

I am working on updated tool, will post it before the Fall Creators Update will be released. In the mean time, if any doubts about the tool's integrity, that those really are false positives, use this WimLib script instead: 'Abbodi1406 uup-converter-wimlib_6.7z ' | TextUploader.com

Two insider builds no 16291 & 16294 released back to back. It seems Microsoft is really serious about releasing the Fall Creators update on 17th October.
