UUP to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 Build Upgrade Files

I must be missing something . Every time I try to use UUPtoISO, the ESD file is deleted before I ever can get to it... It auto deletes durring "Preparing to update" in Windows Update screen. I never reboot, it's just gone.... So, I created a script to look for the ESD file non-stop and change permissions on the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download to deny everyone from deleting anything from this folder. That kinda solves the problem, except now Windows Update Errors and won't even update... It appears the update is completely downloaded, but when I run UUPtoISO, I always get an error:

    Code:
    [ERROR] "\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-voiceactivation-en-us_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16170.1000_none_9bddce8d09b796fc\Tokens_VoiceActivation_en-US.xml": blob not found
SHA-1 message digest of missing blob:
            1542bc0b8095444c02a7c9f328615c9209b704f5
ERROR: If this is a delta WIM, use the --ref argument to specify the WIM(s) on which it is based.
ERROR: Exiting with error code 55:
A file resource needed to complete the operation was missing from the WIM.
Filename is different depending on build. (The above error is from version: 10.0.16170.1000)

    Any thoughts?

I am not very sure but it appears that the update files were not fully downloaded in your case but the system started to install. When the system found some files missing it aborted the installation, deleted the files already downloaded, and started downloading the files again.

!INFO! Before you begin, make sure you have enough free space on system drive. 25GB+ preferred !INFO!

    1. Don't mess with SoftwareDistribution folder permissions.
    2. Let Windows Update do it's thing until it says it is time to restart the computer.
    3. Before rebooting, do the UUPtoISO and make sure you picked the correct path for 16170-files:
      C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\15c201be9020c9e30a33aa5a9dca501c
    4. If UUPtoISO fail, then delete everything from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ and reboot.
    5. You will get a notification that update failed, but don't worry, we did this on purpose. (we know what we are doing here)
    6. Let Windows update re-download all files required for 16170 and try UUPtoISO BEFORE rebooting, but make sure WU is in a state where it request you to reboot.
    7. If WU don't wanna DL 16170 anymore, then I think you have messed with the system too many times and you'd be better off waiting for next release.

!NOTE! DON'T try to rush things, LET WU do it's thing, DON'T mess with any folders while WU or UUPtoISO is/are working !NOTE!

    Hi,

I have followed the instructions and ran into the same problem as Win10PrevUsr twice in a row.
    No idea why.

    Cheers,

I had difficulties to get 16170 upgrade, all my systems kept telling "Some updates were cancelled" all the time. Anyway, after resolving this issue I have upgraded 8 physical and virtual machines, making 8 x64 PRO and Education ISO images (in 4 languages each) using tool in this tutorial, without a single error.

I don't know what else to say than the tool works when used exactly as told in tutorial.

    Hi,

Guess I must have done something wrong during the upgrade install then.
At no point during the process did I find a single .esd file. Was there any ?

Then before installation started Windows counted some 420 files in the UUP folder. When install finished yet prior to a restart it already had deleted some.

    Cheers,

Not an ESD DL. UUP files. ESD is (probably) dead. If you haven't done the Disk Cleanup, look in Windows.old for the files. Then follow this tut.

There is most likely only one .esd file in the SoftwareDistributions sub-folders, the rest are Express Packages which got expanded(some files copied from local system) during preparation phase of WU. IF we get a flight that is Canonical then all features packages will be .esd or/and .cab files too.
