How to Enable or Disable Energy Efficient Ethernet for a Modem


During periods of low data activity, Energy Efficient Ethernet (802.3az EEE) allows for less power consumption by 50% or more while retaining full compatibility with existing equipment.

If your modem (ex: Arris 6190) supports EEE, you could enable or disable EEE to reduce the power consumption of your modem while idle.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable Energy Efficient Ethernet (802.3az EEE) for your modem.

The steps to enable or disable EEE for your modem will vary depending on the brand and model of the modem.

The steps in this tutorial are for the Arris SB6190, SB8200, and S33 cable modems. Please read your modem's manual for more specific details.

Some devices may not connect properly when EEE is enabled. If you have any issues, you can just disable the feature to resolve them.

Here's How:

1 Open your web browser (ex: Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc...)

2 Type http://192.168.100.1 or http://192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your web browser, press Enter, and log in to your modem if not already.

3 Click/tap on the Configuration option. (see screenshot below)

4 Select Enabled or Disabled for what you want for the Energy Efficient Ethernet setting.
