Very good and excellent work you have done.
Kari, for some reason, my volume license MAK key is not applying from my unattend.xml. If I run a keyfinder program after setup, the key is not the one specified in my unattend.xml. Also, I can see on the volume license site that there are only about 30 activations of the key when there should be much more. So it was applying for a while but stopped somewhere along the line...probably as I updated my image.
The other settings in my Specialize pass are applying correctly...such as registeredowner and registeredorganization.
<settings pass="specialize">
<component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

<RegisteredOwner>Business Employee</RegisteredOwner>

<TimeZone>Eastern Standard Time</TimeZone>
</component>
</settings>

Any thought about what I am doing wrong?
Hi guys, hi Kari,
first of all: @Kari you make really nice tutorials. I used some more than once.
And in this case I have a question. I captured and deployed my windows once and everything went well. After a while i noticed that i need an updated version of my windows. This means I want to add a language pack and of course delete more standard software of windows. What I did was to install my windows on a virtual machine and start again the audit mode. Everything was like I set it up in the past. So I began to edit the windows again. I deleted all of the windows store apps and added my language pack. After I finished I started to capture the windows in the same way as the first time and created the install.wim file. I created the ISO in the same way as the first time but now in case for VM users.
When I want to install my windows v2 in a virtual machine I got the same error as KabyBlue mentioned before: images available for installation could not be displayed.
Have you any ideas?
thanks!
Hello Kari,
I registered to say thanks for a very very detailed and comprehensive tutorial. As universe has it things do not always go smooth. I did option 2 to the letter for a fully updated WIn10 1903 build with office and accounts all activated. I created my bootable USB key plugged it on a same hardware PC and got the "Windows cannot find the image files" error. Important to note that the orginal ISO has 7 flavors in it from Home thorough education to enterprise. The image I am interested in is the Pro one. I have a feeling the ISO files are seeking these 7 images while there is only one in there. Any insights?
Hi Kari, or anyone that can help...I really appreciate this tutorial, it is very thorough and well thought out. I am running into an issue at 4.4, and am wondering if my issue is tied to the age of this write-up or I am missing something.
After running the command on step 4.4 I get error 37 (I think that is the number. I am having the issue at work but writing this reply this from home) But the error says the file is currently in use. I have the log files I can attach if you need them to help me.
I have 84 machines that I need to build out identical to the ref machine & have been trying to complete this for 3 weeks. Time to ask for help now.
First, welcome to Ten Forums.
That error is typically given when the folder where you want to save the new, custom install.wim file already contains another install.wim file.
This tutorial is to create ISO from a personal Windows installation, and as such is not suitable for larger scale deployment. Deploying to 84 machines, you need another approach.
May I suggest that you do this one more time, creating the reference image as told in this tutorial: Create media for automated unattended install of Windows 10
That tutorial is good for creating deployment images for larger scale deployment. Tutorial is quite long, it takes you for sure a quarter an hour to read through it, anyway I suggest you do that before starting.
If any issues or questions, post in that tutorial thread.
Kari
Good to know. To simplify deployment, here's one more tutorial which might interest you: Microsoft Deployment Toolkit - Easy and Fast Windows Deployment
I have a few ex-wives and mother-in-laws who would strongly disagree with you, but thanks anyway
Kari
FYI for Part Two you do not shut down, yet. You have to do 3.6 as indicated by 4.4. That threw me for a bit of a loop.
So after successfully putting the image on my separate partition as explained in 4.4, I've rebooted and found no files but the Scratch folder in there. Which is weird because for 30 minutes I watched it copy it there. Thoughts before I start all over?
getting error when booted to usb
