It sounds like a permission issue.

Are you currently signed in to an administrator account when merging the .reg file?

You can use either one so long as it is an administrator type account.

Hello tobwen, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Either way is fine.

The method I use in this tutorial does add more to the registry, but it makes it easier since it doesn't require you to have to change the owner and permission of a registry key first to make it work. It's just a simple merge of a .reg file to add or remove it.
