This auto update did not happen in my case. I searched for the standalone update then when it didn't work I searched and found that you have to go into settings and look for optional apps. Is this punishment for not installing their stock version of windows 10?

    Hello mate,

No punishment. It was just moved to Option Features like in option 1 to make it easier to install instead of having download from a site.

    Hello,

Correct. Option 2 is no longer available for Windows 10 version 1909 and higher. Only option 1 is available for Windows 10 version 2004.

You might see if you may be able to use another option below to successfully install the Media Feature Pack.

Manage Optional Features in Windows 10
Since the "Option 1" did not work for me, I had no choice, but try "Option 2" While I did not have my hopes up, based on your post, to my surprise, it did work.

The chances are that "Option 3" would have work just as well, with my W10 version 20H2.

    Thanks Shawn...

I'm surprised option 1 wasn't available for you with an "N" edition of 20H2, but glad you got it sorted.

I apologize for posting my response in the wrong tutorial, this is the one where should have posted it:

Install or Uninstall Windows Media Player in Windows 10

The Option 2 and 3 referenced in my previous posting are from the link above. Now I understand why you were surprised...

Option 1 not working from either of the tutorial had been a surprise for me; on and off, I've tried to add the Media Feature Pack with Option 1 since September. Why this option didn't work could be number of reasons. The chances are that some of the group policy settings applied a while ego prevent adding optional features. As long the command line/powershell options works, no reason to hunt down the source...

Again, sorry for posting in the wrong tutorial...

I have Windows 10 N version 20H2, need to install media feature for Plex.

Upon following the directions to install Windows Media Pack (Settings>Apps>Optional Features>Add A Feature), the install fails every time.
