This is strictly a guess on my part, DID he think to delete all of his cookies after trying any of these things ?
Thanks for the suggestion - and noted Brink's observation - but just in case, I have cleared all cookies before and after trying again each of the options previously suggested. But no change, I regret.

Sorry - I'm being a bit dim here ... I am not quite sure of what/from where you want me to take a screenshot.

[NB have tried everything again today and there is still no change]
That's ok. Like in Settings under step 5A in OPTION ONE. :)

Sorry again! - I am still being old and stupid. Which 'Settings' do you mean? I can't find an 'OPTION ONE' with a 'step 5A' - unless it is one of your forum pages perhaps?

It's in the tutorial on the first page of this thread. Here's a link to step 5.

I just knew I was not thinking clearly ... I have just changed the picture via my MS account onlne and toggled the sync off and on again; I closed settings and opened again and then took this screenshot. (NB I have scrolled it down a bit just to hide my name and email address from the universe):

What happens when you Browse for an image in your screenshot to change the picture?

I usually try this at the same time that all other attempts fail - just in case - and always get the same originally quoted error warning:

I hate to say it, but you may need to reset Windows 10.

I was worried you might say that; however, I can't go through all that just resolve an annoying glitch that MS should hopefully resolve in due course.

In the meantime, I have followed instead the rather labourious route of manually changing all of the user images (to a different image than the one set via MS online). I turned off sync, rebooted, and the correct (new) image now appears everywhere that I would expect it to. I have now turned on sync once more, and nothing has changed - either way. This indicates to me that the problem must probably be somewhere with the sync-ing process to this PC.

I will leave the two different images on MS sync and this PC to see if anything ever changes, and will report back if and when it does.

Many thanks again for all your help.

    Hi All,
I can surely relate to what's being discussed here, on my laptop when I first boot up I was using my microsoft account. When using that account, the first image I saw was the blue 'halo' image with the gray circle above my name. I never was able to change the gray circle image ( the one with the white half circle on the bottom and a smaller full circle on top ), so I thought I'd try something, I went into settings and changed to sign in with a local account instead..upon doing so the image that I was wanting to show up in the circle shows up correctly. I can't understand why it shows up while using a 'local' account but not when using a microsoft account ?? I have a question about deleting the image's in this folder (C:) Program Data/Microsoft/UserAccountPictures , the only image's that are in there are the one's I don't like,( I'm including a screenshot of them). Unless I'm incorrect..I think if I delete them they won't be able to show up on the welcome screen
if I switch back to using a microsoft account.Attachment 63328
