Consider this scenario:

The machine hangs.

Or the display shows garbage, but the drive light blinks and you can't get the computer to respond.

The crash key (Ctrl-scroll or something else) is a good way to get a kernel dump to analyze what's going on, assuming you know how to interpret it.

The key combination is obscure enough that it's very unlikely to be hit by accident. I've used this on servers and VM's that have gone stupid, many times.
