    Win10 Pro - x64 latest build dual boot w/Win 11 Pro

I am starting to consider my options, especially as my other partition has a Win 10 Pro that refuses to upgrade beyond v1709 (obtained when Win 10 was free). Anything higher fails and I've tried an upgrade install from within but no luck.
I did once have that icon in my tray but I uninstalled whatever it was to get rid of it. Now WU says I'm up to date but no reappearance of the icon so it would appear that I need to buy an up-to-date computer (can't afford to), although this is a Core i7 975. It should be compatible.
Can the compatibility tool be downloaded as a standalone?

    Hello Peter @Ex_Brit,

You could use the Windows 10 Update Assistant below in Windows 10 that will also report any compatibility issues when trying to update to the latest version of Windows 10.

Thanks, I'll try playing around with that. I think I already tried that but a second go may be advantageous.

I will, but meanwhile I am preparing my Win 7 for upgrading and no longer have that icon, so how can I check the Win 7 upgradability?

You could use the Media Creation Tool to start the process of getting ready to upgrade to Windows 10 to see if you have any compatibility issues at step 14 below before continuing to upgrade to Windows 10 or cancel (close).

Alas Win 10 Pro wouldn't update above 1709, it's now failed 12 times. That shows you how many different ways I've tried. I've uninstalled Win 10 Enterprise for now as it was just as bad.
Microsoft really have something to answer for as looking online I see I'm one of many, many people in the same boat.
I only have Win Defender installed so no other software that would cause concern. The Update Assistant zipped through the compatibility check saying all was well so I have no idea what's wrong.

I'm sorry to hear it didn't go well.

What are the full specs of the system you are trying to update to see if something may stand out.

For now, you can check the upgrade logs listed in the MS article below to see if anything may have been reported as an issue or cause of the failure.

OK I am very bad at interpreting logs apart from finding it hard to read such things anyway due to deteriorating eyesight, and I did do a Disk Cleanup afterwards so some logs were deleted I think.
Attached is what Windows found. Config is as shown in My Computer specs. Do you need any more info? Now I can't see if the attachment worked or not.
