    How to Add or Remove Control Panel on Win+X Menu in Windows 10


    The Win+X Quick Link menu is a pop-up menu from the Start button that includes shortcuts of common management, configuration, and other power user Windows tools.

    Starting with Windows 10 build 14942, Control Panel was replaced by Settings in the Win+X menu.

    This tutorial will show you how to add or remove Control Panel on the Win+X Quick Link menu for your account in Windows 10.

    Here's How:

    1 Click/tap on the Download button below to download a ZIP file for a Control Panel (Control &Panel) shortcut.

    Win+X_Control_Panel.zip

    Download


    2 Save the .zip file to your desktop.

    3 Unblock the .zip file.

    4 Open the .zip file. (see screenshot below)

    5 Open a separate File Explorer window, copy and paste the Win+X group location below you want to add Control Panel into the address bar, and press Enter. (see screenshot below)

    (Top section in Win+X)
    %LocalAppdata%\Microsoft\Windows\WinX\Group3

    OR

    (Middle section in Win+X)
    %LocalAppdata%\Microsoft\Windows\WinX\Group2

    OR

    (Bottom section in Win+X)
    %LocalAppdata%\Microsoft\Windows\WinX\Group1

    6 Drag and drop (copy) the Control &Panel shortcut from the .zip file in step 4 into the Group1 (bottom), Group2 (middle), or Group3 (top) folder you selected in step 5. (see screenshot below)

    Deleting the Control &Panel shortcut from this Group1 (bottom), Group2 (middle), or Group3 (top) folder will remove it from the Win+X menu.

    7 Restart the explorer process to apply.

    Can we 'slam' the Settings one into Group 1 or will it create a problem down the road?

    Good idea Edwin. The downloaded Settings shortcut from the tutorial works well for me as well copied into the Group1 folder below. :)

    You could actually use either shortcut in Group1, and leave the other in Group2.

    Yuppers! Remains working after Restart Explorer, restart PC and a cold boot! :)
    Better keep those shortcuts in a safe place, I've got a feeling the modifications won't survive an Update/Upgrade!

    Disappointing and yes, sometimes a real pain,
    but the upgrades come as close to a clean install as one gets,
    so that users with OS problems can start with a clean slate.

    In 14946, the System and Power Options links now point to new Settings eqivalents BUT only if you clean install or create a new account!

    Maybe tutorial needs to be modified for this change?
