It shows as being installed but it hasn't changed the version.

Ah, ok. It won't change the version. KB4498524 just allows KB4497093 to be installed so you can then install 18885.

@Brink another way to install a driver from a .cab.
Here is an example for Intel Software Guard Extensions

Extract all the files from the folder, using 7-Zip or WinRar or what ever unzipper/extractor one uses.

Find the .inf file. Right click and select install.

Go to Device Manager to see if it installed.

Then to be sure you got the most updated driver at Microsoft Update Catalog(it can be convoluted there sometimes), select the driver and right click and search for updates.

    Note   Note
This is just an example driver, and SGX will only show up in device manage if you have BIOS set to always have it on(which uses a little bit of memory always), when you switch to Software controlled, it disappears from Device Manager, which is OK because the service is running then(aesm) then.

This was just meant to show how to install a driver from a .cab file, in case the right click menu or DISM methods don't work

    You're welcome Shawn.
many of the driver updates I get from Mokichu at ROG forums are with out the bloat(the UI) where if the UI is installed only the drivers are updated through the .inf, and today I wanted to update my SGX and the .exe wasn't working, so I totally uninstalled everything to do with it, nuked the service in RegEdit, then installed via .inf ,then checked for updates in Device Manager and received the software.

Is anybody still replying to this thread? I I downloaded one of those 10.8MB .cab files, which is supposedly the latest Realtek audio drivers, but I get Error 2 using installing options 1 and 2 as shown in the tutorial, and if I try to update the drivers by searching for them in my computer files and manually point to the extracted folder, it tells me I already have the latest version and don't need to update.

With the drivers I am currently using, which I manually downloaded from the Realtek website (version R2.82 / audio drivers to version 6.0.1.8186 from 14/6/2017) my Realtek HD Audio Manager program disappeared.

It's not in Control Panel anymore, and it's not in the group of programs that pop up in the Windows task bar when you click on the little arrow in the bottom right of the screen. But I discovered that the files for this program still exist on my computer, in C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA. But when I click on any of the four present .exe files, even running them as an admin, nothing happens. They are RAVBg64.exe, RAVCpl64.exe, RtkNGUI64.exe, and RtIUpd64.exe.

How can I get Realtek HD Audio Manager to open again? Or how can I see if I get it back by installing this supposedly latest drivers from the .cab files?

    This whole thing is confusing.

UPDATE: okay so I downloaded the bigger size .cab file, and indeed that allowed me to install newer Realtek drivers and even get Realtek HD Audio Manager back.

    Hello,

Normally, the options in this tutorial will not work to install Realtek HD audio drivers from a .cab file. For that, you usually need to use: Install Realtek CAB file in Windows 10

Thanks for the reply. I had tried that method too, but with the 10MB .cab file, it told me that I already had the latest drivers (basically it wasn't seeing/finding anything in the .cab file with this method). But it worked when I downloaded the 140something MB version.

For me the smaller (latest) package of 8960.1 worked, and the huge 161mb CAB file didin't.

    How bizarre!

I previously was on the 8881.1, but I saw in the Realtek thread some said it sounded tinny... although I didin't really noticed that but others were recommending the 8960.1 for the good sound quality so I wanted to try. Think it was Cliffy among others.
