Hi Sean, I added the separate administrator account but it still hasn't worked.

    Odd.

Does it show up if you manually add the registry entries?

    FROM Reply #2:
To install a DRIVER cab file
Extract the cab file to a directory using 7z.
    Open the Device Manager - <WIN> <X> then <M>
Select the device and Click "Update Driver Software" then "Browse my computer for ....."

Did this to update the AMD video card driver, I only did it because Windows Update installed the same driver on another PC with a very similar card. Windows Creators Update rejects the newer driver from AMD.

Just be SURE to select under Sound, video & game controllers section! NOT the first line of Audio Inputs & Outputs like I did in haste,
That A I/O will search & return that you're uptodate whereas the lower controllers will fully find Realtek drivers. Thanks.

Another way to install a cab file (Realtek Audio driver as example)

    • Extract the cab file to a directory using winrar or other extraction tool (create a new directory)
    • Open the Device Manager in admin mode (Win+R devmgmt.msc)
    • Select the device and Click "Update Driver Software..."

    • Browse and select the folder where you have extracted the cab

    • And install the driver !

This is the easiest way i found

Hi thanks for this tutorial. I followed directions and restarted as prompted. However, now every time I start the PC, I get these 2 dialog boxes one after the other... can you please help resolve this?

    Hello orlando,

Double check to see if these items are listed in your startup programs. If they are, disable them to see if that will stop them.

If only it were that easy lol... those 2 files dont show up per say but if I do Open File Location on the Realtek HD Audio Manager (closest thing I could find), it highlights one of the 2 culprits...

Should I just uninstall and reinstall the device completely or can you think of anything else?

If you uncheck the box and click on Run, does that stop the Open File dialogs next time?

OK, I had overlooked that detail!
Unchecking it removed this nag... and I made sure that Realtek works and is latest driver.

So I'd say this mystery is now solved. Thanks Brink!
