I've already uses the reg mod as well as manually adding in the new reg key and DWord32 value set for 1. The removal of the KB3035583 update was simply to remove the 10 app since that is no longer needed. I don't think I really need a dual boot of 10 Pro with 10 Pro on two separate systems! Quadraphonic 10?
Sorry if I don't get burning red since often people are advised to change the settings when a particular upgrade causes problems from either let me choose when or never with the previous versions. That prevented issues caused by an update that clashed with something else. In this case 10 would be clashing as the unwanted upgrade over something you want to keep running.
I don't who thought this one up! But it could well end up back firing in MS's face by seeing a negative reaction to how they are supposedly intentionally or unintentionally imposing 10 on people by how 10 is delivered. I've had friends here who wouldn't even look at 7 when that was new and kept on running XP before one couple got into a pair of 8.1 laptops! The friend's better half previously had a Vista laptop I salvaged a few times from hard drives crashing and malwares. (Little fingers borrowing it not knowing better!)
That old Antec 900-1 case I set up for a friend with a couple of spares drives saw 7 Pro go on and never used I mentioned I could easily upgrade to 10 as well as see a dual boot set up there too. He still wants to run 7 by itself however while I explained he could end up running both. This automatic upgrade stuff however...??? is kind of a real shame since 10 is turning out to be a good version to work with!
A heads-up: at the beginning of Oct 2015, Microsoft re-issued KB3035583, the update that installs the gwx updater, for 8.1 (Oct 1) and 7 SP1 (Oct 5) — details — not as an optional update but with a severity rating of important. I suppose that's one way to driving adoption of your most recent OS, now standing at 110 million..
If you suddenly see the gwx icon in your system tray again, enter the following at an administrator command line prompt:
wusa /kb:3035583 /uninstall /norestart

Thanks for the info, dogpark. If not providing the GWX balloon, would you how would one would start the process if desired?
I see you’re on your hidden updates screen. Does “twice in the past two days” mean one came each day consecutively?Upgrade to Windows 10 just appears as an update. In fact twice in the past two days
I like your sig, BTW. He was a great man, bless his soul. :)
