Hi there

I am so happy to have fond this forum and this thread, as I have been fighting with automatic restore points for months. I tried to get help on Microsoft, but they don't answer. I really hope somebody here can help me.

The thread is here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...5-665a6b450532

I have lots of free space for the restore points, so that is not the reason they are being deleted: I have allowed 69 GB for the points (15 percent og 2 TB) and at the moment I use 8,98 GB for the existing restore point.

What I wrote to Microsoft is the following:

I did follow your advice, but it did not help to run the iso file. Something is still wrong.

I now have two jobs that should create automatic restore points (while I am trying to find one that works).

1) This one called: "Create Restore Point on Schedule" (guide here:

Automatically Create System Restore Point on Schedule in Windows 10) has this:

In program/script: powershell.exe and:

-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "Checkpoint-Computer -Description "Automatic Restore Point" -RestorePointType "MODIFY_SETTINGS""

Task Scheduler says it has run at 12:40. When I check under the restore points something definitely has happened: There are no restore points any more. Something in the process deletes the existing restore points. I had three restore points before the script was running. Now I have zero restore points.

If I enter Task Scheduler and press Run in the right side of the program and therefore run the job sort of manually it works. The restore point is created. This must mean, that I have the correct arguments for the scripts.

2) The other script that should run on start up is called: "Dan gendannelsespunkt ved start af PC (manuelt oprettet)" does not work either (Guide here:

Sadan laver du Windows automatisk oprette et systemgendannelsespunkt ved opstart - da.phhsnews.com) It also deletes existing restore points.

In program/script I have: "Start a program" and wmic.exe and this:

/Namespace:\\root\default Path SystemRestore Call CreateRestorePoint "Startup Restore Point", 100, 7

If I enter Task Scheduler and press Run in the right side of the program and therefore run the job sort of manually it works. The restore point is created. This must mean, that I have the correct arguments for the scripts.

I think it is very strange.

Update on April 1st.: Automatic Restore Point (method mentioned as number 1) was created, and the former points were not deleted.

Update on April 2nd.: Automatic Restore Point (method mentioned as number 1) was created. But all other restore points were deleted.

Best regards,

Hanne B. Stegemüller

Maybe I have solved the problem myself. I would be so happy after fighting for months.

What I did was this:

I found "Ashampoo Registry Cleaner 2" which is a free program that cleans the registry database.

Before I cleaned anything, of course I made a backup. I ran the program, and now "Create Restore Point on Schedule" (your method) has been running correct two mornings and the former restore points were not deleted. Hurray.
