    Hello,
Thank you for all these tutorials ... it's really a gold mine
I would like automated the creation of the Restoration point Daily. However, instead of scheduled time as described in section 6, I want it to be created when the computer starts.
    TNX for yr help
    Regards

    Hello coukou, :)

If you like, you could use the method in the tutorial below instead for automatically creating a restore point at startup.

    System Restore Fix?

First of all, thank you for such an excellent & detailed explanation of system restore!! I am having some problems that I hope you can answer. Note: I have Windows 10 Pro & have admistrator rights on my user account.1) The biggest problem is that when I try to restore, I get an error message. a) I created a restore point. Then I made a small change to the registry & rebooted. It was[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors]"ActiveBorder"="0 0 255" & I changed it to 0 0 0 b) Then I tried to restore. I got this error message.

    c) I have Avira free antivirus, so I disabled the following protections:
Automatically Create System Restore Point on Schedule in Windows 10-avira-protection.pngAutomatically Create System Restore Point on Schedule in Windows 10-avira-security.png
    d) I tried System Restore again & still got the same error.

Of course, I'm not sure that Avira was causing it, so I changed Avira back.

I read of a fix on easeus.com & tried it, but it failed to help:https://www.easeus.com/backup-recove...cessfully.html

To fix an unspecified error occurred during System Restored 0x80070005 in Windows 10:
    1. Type Services.msc in Start Menu Search Box, hit Enter.
    2. Make sure that the Volume Shadow Copy & Task Scheduler & Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider Service is Running and set to Automatic. [both Volume Shadow Copy & Microsoft Software Shadow Copy were not running, so I changed those]
    3. If the Status of System Restore Service is Not Started, Start it. Also, set it to Automatic if it is not. [Under Services, I do NOT have a System Restore Service]
    4. Reboot your PC, re-confirm again, and then check if System Restore failed issue is fixed or not.
I tried the steps above & still have the same problem.

So my first questions are, is there any way to fix this & should there be a system restore service under services.msc?

    2) Before finding this tutorial, I read another way to have a daily restore point created. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I went to Win+R > gpeit.msc > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender Antivirus > Scan > double click > Create a system restore point > Enable. This was supposed to create a restore point before Windows Defender ran.
Then I went to Task Scheduler > Library > Microsoft > Windows > Windows Defender > and double clicked on the scan > New... > & scheduled a scan at 5:30AM. It supposedly runs & says it completed successfully. The Task Scheduler says that System Restore also completed successfully, but no restore point is made.

Can you tell me what steps I should try? I really appreciate your time & knowledge!

    Hello @phrab,

If you haven't already, double check this below to make sure they're set correctly:

    • System protection must be turned on for your Windows drive (ex: C: ) for this task to work.
    • You must have UAC set to its default setting for this task to work.

If you do, then what happens when you try to create a restore point using Option One below? Same thing?

Thank you so much for your reply!
I can create system restore points & have a shortcut for that also from one of your other tutorials. System restore is turned on for my C:\ drive. The problem is that the restore doesn't work & the automatic creation doesn't work. By that I mean, I can't create it from the Task Scheduler. MS creates a restore point when there's an update.

I didn't know that UAC had to be at the default. I was able to create restore points manually without having UAC set at it's default. Quite frankly, I had it said to never notify me because of all the messages I get from it. I just turned it on to default.

    1. Would the previous setting prevent me from both having restore points created daily using the Task Scheduler & from restoring?
    2. Is there a way to do both without having the UAC set at it's default?
    Thanks again.

You could test it with UAC set to default to rule it out as a cause.

Thanks again for the quick reply.
I just did. Got the same message. Created a new restore point & tried to restore from it. Same message. In the meantime, I read that Volume Shadow Copy & Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider Service don't need to be running or set to automatic, so I had turned them off.

But that shouldn't affect restore, should it? I'm not sure what to try.

It appears that Avira may still be interfering despite it being disabled.

If you like, you could try testing with Avira completely uninstalled.

I will try uninstalling Avira. (Btw, the link goes to a pdf document & says the removal tool is to remove viruses, not remove Avira.)

Enabling UAC is driving me crazy, as it keeps coming up every time I start an app. I also recall that I made the following changes of disabling UAC through group policy:

Must I have UAC at it's default in order for system restore to work or is there another way?
Thank you again. I appreciate your time very much.
