Yes I took the photo just after a reboot but what I might do is switch them off, reboot switch them back on again

Absolutely no difference, still no 'most used' list.

    Vipermk2,

If this has just recently happened, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened to undo and fix it.

I have managed to restore it now, I used
'Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4 for Windows 10'

I used the system file checker and it repaired some corrupt files.

    Thank for your help Brinks

Ah, you must of used some other method to originally turn it off that used a different setting.

Glad you got it sorted. :)

    UPDATE:

Starting with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14328, the most used apps list and the All apps list have been merged into a single view and elevated it to the top level of the UI to reduce clicking and scrolling.

Is there any way to quickly clear the list, as there was in Windows 7 (by unchecking "Store and display recently opened...", clicking apply, then checking it again), or do I have to manually go through and remove each item (i.e. all of the defaults)?
Yes, on Win10, if you click to disable and re-enable, it clears the list. I did this, inadvertently and the list is gone. I don't know how long it will take for it to rebuild.
