    Hello @Wisewiz,

Very strange. Have you looked at the Registry Key in the Registry Editor to see what Value it has? . . .

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer then ShowDriveLettersFirst?

    REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" /V ShowDriveLettersFirst /T REG_DWORD /D 4 /F

    taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    start explorer.exe

The 4 is what you want isn't it?
So are you saying that it does NOT work after a Reboot?
Perhaps @Brink will be able to shed some light on it.

    I'm hoping so.

Well, I'm on my new 21H1 installation on my very old notebook, and all of my (mostly YOUR) customizations have worked, but this .bat (option 2, 5, letter before name) doesn't have the desired effect, even after a reboot. I unblocked and ran as admin per instructions, but no go.

Any idea why it's not working? It has worked on my other two main machines, both 10 Pro 2004 when I applied the .bat.

    Dan
    Hello Dan,

You shouldn't need to restart the computer to apply. Normally, you would only need to restart the explorer.exe process to apply which the BAT file does for you.

I tested on my W10 21H1 19043.1151 VM, and options 1and 2 step 5 are still working for me below.

You might test toggling it to a few different settings, apply, and then back to 4 to see if it may help.

Okay. Toggled to 1. Restarted explorer. No change. Toggled to 2. Same. Toggled to 4. Same result.

I know this is an old horse, but it should still respond to routine commands.

As a test, have both option 1 and 2 set to 4 to see if it may force it.

    Hoo-freakin'-ray!

I was just using the HKLM .bat. The HKCU .bat did it. The reg setting was right in LM but wasn't in CU. Now both are right.

Many thanks to both of you.
