Where... when... how.... you didnt say anything important in your message. When does it wake up, under what circumstances. On battery, on AC, lid open, lid closed........... do you use modern standby or S3. Are there any devices connected to it, usb mouse, keyboard, bluetoth mouse, bt keyboard.

Hi All, thanks for your help so far, let me provide more details.

Here's the issue. I put the computer to sleep, either by clicking the power button on the laptop or clicking Sleep in windows, and it goes to sleep. But then after some random time, it wakes up, even though I don't touch anything on the laptop or move the mouse or keyboard attached to the laptop. I am not even at my desk sometimes and the computer turns on (like in the middle of the night), it's like a ghost is coming by and turning on my computer from sleep.

    Here's what I tried:
    - in powercfg devicequery wake_armed, this returns NONE
    - whenever the computer wakes up by itself, I check powercfg lastwake, and it says Wake History Count - 0
    - I check the event viewer and I can see when the computer wakes up, cause it says "The system is exiting connected standby Reason: Input Keyboard." but this is at 2AM in the morning when I am sleeping, again who is this ghost that is touching my computer. This also doesn't make sense because devicequery wake_armed returns NONE, so nothing should be able to wake up my computer.
    - The power plan says "HP Optimized (Modern Standby)" so I am assuming I am using modern standby.
    - I've changed power plans and still run into this issue. (changed it to the Balanced power plan).
    - Fast startup is disabled

    I am stumped.

I thought I did answer but let me recap, sorry!

Where... when... how.... you didnt say anything important in your message.
    - it happens when I am sleeping, the computer turns on by itself from sleep. How? I am not sure, since I am not touching the keyboard or any of the input devices.

When does it wake up, under what circumstances.
    - No input from the user, that's the issue. I am not sure why it is waking up.

On battery, on AC, lid open, lid closed........... do you use modern standby or S3.
    - This is happening when I am on AC, with the lid open. Even when I have the lid closed, it still turns on since I have an external monitor hooked up to the laptop. I use modern standby.

Are there any devices connected to it, usb mouse, keyboard, bluetoth mouse, bt keyboard.
    - I have a usb mouse and keyboard hooked up to the laptop. No bluetooth devices. Both devices are logitech with the latest drivers and software.

@Jayzala Answer is already up there. Always close lid. Change sleep timer to 10-20 mins. Use hibernate or S3.

    Ok, I'll try those things.

But I'm still curious on why the computer still wakes up unexpectedly without any sort of input to the devices. It still happens when I have no usb keyboard or mouse connected. It just wakes up by itself.

@Jayzala - could the problem be due to wake timers? To check if there are any running (and when they are due), try the following command in an elevated command prompt:

    powercfg -waketimers

If so, try the solutions listed at the following link (the part about wake timers, further down the page):

How to Prevent Your Computer From Waking Up Accidentally

N.B. if you can't disable wake tasks in Task Scheduler, move on to the next solution in the link about changing power options and try that. If none of them work, report back here and I'll suggest something else.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just went to my cmd and checked, and there are no active wake timers in my system unfortunately

HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO SAY THIS: MOST POWERCFG OPTIONS AND OUTPUTS ARE OBSOLETE IF SYSTEM USES MODERN STANDBY.

Switch to S3 if you want to use powercfg and take control again over your laptops sleep behavior.

If you switch to Windows 10 2004 you cant disable modern standby anymore and revert back to S3 via registry CsEnabled option, which was removed. Only option to do this still, is to use my hack, if you laptop is missing a FORCE S3 option. Tutorial for this is here:
