Hi! I too have an ASUS (UX360UAK) laptop. The power button is annoyingly on the side and rather inconvenient to push down every time I want to wake my laptop, and hitting a keyboard button won't wake it from sleep either.

I've gone into device management-->keyboards-->power management. In device management there are three keyboards: a PC/AT Enhanced PS/2 (101/102-Key), and two HID Keyboard Devices. I'm not sure which one of these is the physical keyboard, but only the only one that has a Power Management tab is one of the HID Keyboard Device's so I'm assuming it's this one. In Power Management, Allow this device to wake the computer is CHECKED/ENABLED but still keyboard won't wake my laptop from sleep.

I've completed the BIOS instruction too, and HID Keyboard Device (001) is listed and enabled (See pic)

I've also tried entering this command: powercfg -deviceenablewake "HID Keyboard Device (002)" and it doesn't work I get the following:
C:\Users\Mahsa>powercfg -deviceenablewake "HID Keyboard Device (002)"Unable to perform operation. An unexpected error (0x490) has occurred: Element not found.

I think it's pretty obvious that those screenshots are not of elevated command prompts... If you right click > "Run as admin" cmd.exe, then it will display "C:\WINDOWS\system32" as path (not "C:\Users\username") and "Administrator:" at the beginning of title text.

Anyways, it's a great tutorial as always. I especially love downloading .reg files and scripts from here, terrific resource. Thanks again @Brink.

This HowTo isnt working anymore, either because of a bug in Windows (1803), or because of modern standby. I have a Dell XPS 15 9570, which unfortunately uses modern standby and not S3, and neither of the two options work.

    1. there are no energy save tabs anymore in device manager for ANY device, not wifi, not bluetooth, not mouse nor keyboard HID devices.

    2. powercfg shows just, that the fingerprint sensor is allowed to wake up the device:C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -devicequery wake_armedGoodix fingerprint

yet... ANY movement of the mouse, keyboard press, or bluetooth event just wakes up the laptop from sleep.

I am having similar problems to those encountered by the earlier posters:
    • The BIOS of my Acer laptop doesn't show a "Wake on keyboard" option,
    • The keyboard driver (which is a "Standard PS/2 Keyboard") doesn't have a "Power Management" tab.
    • The keyboard driver isn't listed in response to powercfg -devicequery wake_from_any
    • powercfg -deviceenablewake "Standard PS/2 Keyboard" run at an elevated command prompt isn't accepted.

I am running the latest version of Windows, with (to the best of my knowledge) the latest drivers installed. I have tried deleting the keyboard driver, but Windows simply re-installs it.

After installing Windows 10, I went through tightening privacy settings etc.. Is it possible that there is a Windows setting that is preventing the keyboard waking the PC from sleep?

    Hello @Ubtree,

If the keyboard doesn't have a Power Management tab, then it may not be supported for this. Especially if it's not listed in the wake device query.

Do you get an error message in the command prompt?

Thank you for the response, Brink.

Yes: "You do not have permission to enable or disable device make." But I am definitely running the command prompt as an administrator.

Do you have any other device related to the keyboard listed in powercfg -devicequery wake_from_any?

In addition, check your BIOS/UEFI settings to see if it may have an option to enable the keyboard to wake computer.

No, there's nothing that appears to relate to the keyboard:
    USB 3.1 Extensible Host Controller
    Card reader
    2 x Bluetooth enumerators
    3 x Wi-Fi adapters
    SSD
    2 x Bluetooth devices
    USB root hub
    Bluetooth USB module
    NVM express controller
    Graphics card
    ACPI power button
    Realtek audio
    PCI express root port
    Fingerprint sensor
    Audio controller
    2 x PCIe controllers
2 x PCI express root ports
