How to Add or Remove Cast to Device context menu in Windows 10

    information   Information
Cast to Device in Windows 10 is a rebranded and improved version of Play To Device that was used in previous version of Windows. Cast to Device is a feature that allows you to directly (wired or wirelessly) stream media from your PC or tablet to a Miracast or DLNA supported device (ex: TV or Xbox) on your home network.

The Cast to Device context menu is available on media files (music, photos, videos, etc...) and folders that are supported for this feature. Cast to Device is also available as an option in supported apps, such as Microsoft Edge and Movies & TV.

This tutorial will show you how to remove the Cast to Device context menu from files and folders for all users in Windows 10. This can be handy if you don't use or want the context menu.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to add or remove the context menu.

    Hello Jack,

What is not working for you?

I just tested on my system using the .bat file to remove the context menu, and it got removed.

    Hi Brink,

Sorry for the late reply, .bat still doesn't work, i just tried running it again and "cast to device" is still present. Then i went to:
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Blocked
..and manually added {7AD84985-87B4-4a16-BE58-8B72A5B390F7} as new string with Play to Menu as value data, restarted explorer and "cast to device" is removed. It worked so thank you!

    Great news.

Off that the .bat file didn't remove it for you.

Just to confirm, did you right click on the .bat file and click on "Run as administrator?

Of course, but this wouldn't be the first thing that broke in this 1903 version.. Since couple of weeks ago, I'm getting "class not registered" errors when trying to view properties of network adapters, obviously sandbox is no longer working, latest cumulative update won't install... This version is a mess, with every update they break more things, so I'm not surprised that things like these that use to - no longer work.

Thankfully manually adding keys to registry works, so my problem is solved one way or another. All i can say is i can't wait for the next major windows version, hopefully they'll fix all these annoying bugs..

    Thanks once again Brink!
