I haven't done any Restore Image process yet I don't know how it works but from the tutorials after clicking Restore Image button doesn't it popup "This restore must be completed in win PE rescue environment create rescue media and add to windows boot menu..." (I created full C backup) Do you mean it's possible to not use rescue media boot option and just create image, click restore image, it restarts pc in restored state without boot options?

That's what I thought in order to restore you need to create rescue media USB or add to boot menu? either way you have to boot from win PE right? Do you always use boot from USB rescue media method?
I see that you've already received some excellent advice, but I thought I'd tell you some recommended practices from their support experts. I've been using Reflect for almost 4 years on both Win10 & WinXP. I use the paid version. To me, having all possible options for something this important is worth it.

I use a CD Rescue Disk, rather than USB, but either is easy. If I want to restore, I put the CD in & reboot. The CD contains the WinPE environment, so it will load Reflect. Once loaded, you can take the CD out (keeping it in would create endless reboots to the Reflect environment). Scroll to the backup that you want, select it, & restore. When it's finished, it will boot to Windows.

As far as making backups, I think an image is best. If/when your computer screws up, you restore it entirely. You can also mount an image (without leaving Windows) & restore or view individual files or folders using the image.

I use 2 external drives & switch every week & use a consolidated full image, followed by 7 incrementals on each drive. This gives me up to 2 weeks of backups. For a description of what Reflect considers best practices, see the complete discussion at Incremental Forever (Synthetic Full Backup) & especially the answer.

After you use Reflect for awhile, I think you'll come to love it.

You can edit the comments for a backup definition file at any time. So, in your example, you could modify the comments before the scheduled backup, and it would be there attached to that next backup.
Right click the definition file and click Advanced. Then click Comments and type away, and click OK. It will be saved.

What is the use of the MY Backup.xml?
What is the use of inserting comments if then to restore I have to upload the .mrimg file and not the .xml file where there are comments to distinguish the various backups?
In fact, if I entered a comment in the .xml file it does not appear in the details of the .mrimg file. corresponding
Maybe I'm doing something wrong or I didn't understand the use

    1. The My backup files are backup definition files. You should give them a meaningful name and use them to run the same backup again.
    2. If you are creating a new backup definition each time you backup file date would be the best way of linking them. If they are for identical backups then it doesn't matter which you use. If you are creating different backups then the image files should be in different destination directories for each definition.
    3. The comment appears in the listing in the restore tab..

    Hi,
I just name the folder the image goes into meaningful seeing I don't do either creating or restoring of images inside the os
I only use the winpe recovery media.
Only quirk is I have to create a folder in advance.

You can also add these Column Headings in File Explorer for both Macrium Backup Method and Macrium Comments.

I hadn't noticed that Option before but it seems that is because the Free Version does not provide that functionality.

I'm using the Free Version, but also noticed once that they'd disappeared on me after an update. Apparently a known problem that has a solution that worked for me. ;o)

Ran across this just now on both my platforms after noticing 'Backup Method' and 'Backup Comment' were missing in my Explorer windows and were no longer showing up under 'More...' as a choice for column headings.

Apparently a common problem after certain updates that will wipe out Macrium's shell extensions and / or context menus. This article mentions an in-place upgrade as the cause, and yet I've never done one since my clean install of 2004 in May after which I specifically set these columns. Can't say for certain if it was from this update or not, having just noticed it.

Macrium Reflect KnowledgeBase - Windows Explorer context menus and/or shell extensions are missing

    Fix is pretty straight forward:

    From an elevated Cmd prompt:

    Code:
    CD "c:\program files\macrium\reflect"
    regsvr32 RContextMenu.dll
    regsvr32 RShellEx.dll

Afterwards either reboot, or stop and start 'explorer.exe'

Thanks Appreciate you posting back with the Solution , worked like a Charm, I didn't even need a reboot or restart of Explorer.exe after the two suceeded messages.

will keep this Tip tucked away for future use :)
