There is on the paid version.

But I'm wondering how useful it is considering that I hear good things about restoring Win 10 to new hardware without using that feature.

Or just moving the existing system drive to the new PC and see what happens.

I'm going to be rebuilding in a year or two, so wondering about whether to bother with that feature.

Isn't there also an option to deploy image to new PC/hardware ?
    Yes, in the paid versions.

Yes, W10 is pretty good at adapting to different HW. Several times I installed it on my computer that's last model for my friend with a museum grade Intel 775 platform and after couple of safe mode bouts, it worked. Important thing is to connect to internet as soon as possible.

[QUOTE=Mike100;1930679]I’m thinking the primary reason for using an image is to restore a system in the event of a full disaster when the boot drive fails. However reading the comments that appears to be a secondary MAIN reason, taking a back seat to using images in order to roll back a working drive instead of using the Windows restore feature. I like that idea.

I’ll have to get in the habit of making more frequent images.

You can schedule backups even with the Free version , I also run a full backup before allowing each Win10 Cumulative or Feature Update ( eg 2004) onto my computers, it has saved me a few times after a bad WU.

I take a different approach. I do full image weekly and differentials daily so my latest image is never more than 24 hours old. I time my images so that they are an hour before MS normally releases updates (happens to be my evening meal time too so doesn't interfere). If there is an update I will do an incremental afterwards so I don't have to reapply the update in the event of needing to restore.

Once in a while, Windows 10 does not handle the upgrade e.g. if it cannot find a particular driver (if the old driver is incompatible).

In this situation, the Macrium Reflect Redeploy Feature is really helpful.

For clean installs, you can inject drivers into boot.wim and install.wim using dism.

There are more compelling reasons to get the paid version - in particular incremental images, Rapid Delta Restore, Macrium Image Guardian, and Viboot.

You are very cautions and probably do more important stuff than me. Except for those extra backups I d o one full backup a week but system disk is my smallest problem, backup is just a time saver, my data is on separate disks and are backed up in different way, I just copy folders that contain otherwise retrievable files to removable disk(s).

Why do you do daily differentials. Incrementals are so much more space efficient?
