If you don't pay you don't have access to features like folder backups, incrementals, Image Guard, emails. Better?
It is not a subscription but when 8 comes out I understand you have to buy although at a discount.
Macrium don't do any cloud-based services as far as I know.
The key is a perpetual licence for version 7.n. If/when a version 8 is released I would need to purchase another key to upgrade, or could just stay on 7 forever.
Each key is a licence to use Macrium on one machine, I bought a 4-pack of licences for Reflect Home and have installed two of them so far, but the rest of my machines run Reflect Free.
I've added Win10XPE as a boot option to my system. It's a fantastic rescue environment for fixing things that go wrong with your Windows 10 install. It also includes Macrium Reflect which can be booted and used to restore a Macrium reflect image to your Win 10 boot drive.
You still need to create the Macrium rescue media (flash drive) but only need to use it if the hard drive dies and you need to replace it and start from scratch.
I’m thinking the primary reason for using an image is to restore a system in the event of a full disaster when the boot drive fails. However reading the comments that appears to be a secondary reason, taking a back seat to using images in order to roll back a working drive instead of using the Windows restore feature. I like that idea.
I’ll have to get in the habit of making more frequent images. It will be easier & faster now that I’ll be using 2 drives & keeping data off the OS/program drive.
I downloaded the User Guide from Macrium’s website & it’s a whopping 547 pages! One thing caught my attention while taking a quick look through it. There was mention of SSDs and aligning partitions & sectors. Is that something to be concerned about when making an SSD image onto a backup HDD and/or restoring it? Or is this no longer an issue when using the latest version of MR?

Yeah, I'd guess 90% or more of Macrium restores are done for some reason other than a total drive failure. Typically to get out of a bad situation short of that.
I've never had any issue regarding partition alignment and sectors that pertained to Macrium----or any distinction that had to be made between SSD and HDD as either source or target.
Might be some issue, but not that I can recall reading about.
I've got that same PDF but haven't waded through the sordid details.
