Are you backing up to an external USB 3.0 dock. Mine will fail with verification errors. I either backup on a USB 3.0 port and then verify after plugging into a USB 2.0 port or I do the whole process on a USB 2.0 port.

Some day I must replace my USB3.0 enclosure.

I am using a USB 3 port. I have one of those extra port modules attached with 3 and 2. So would it be okay to use the 2 from the module or avoid it altogether?

Hi RealZeal I did the same thing the multi USB Ports are Just too unreliable
Thanks for the Post Here's what I did

Sorry Caledon-Ken I forgot to relate that I backed up in a Front 3.0 USB Port I had tried the Dongle & Ports plugged into the Same Port and it Failed unless we pay a lot of money these USB Dongles are more trouble than they are worth

To be clear I was faulting all USB3.0 ports or externals. Just my unit has issues and was sharing my experience.

The quick way to prove if this issue is similar to mine.

Plug your external directly in to a USB2.0 port and manually verify the back you made. ( You can verify a backup at any time once it is created.)

    Thanks Ken;

I've just tried to do that and there is no backup there. I checked the log file and it says backup aborted so I guess it never got to finish the backup despite it saying it was verifying.

Ken assume your speaking of your USB 3.0 Hub? I have found this one to be excellent for everything we need a hub for. Atolla 7 port While it stated as 3.0 its actually 3.1 Gen 1 5GBS the Real USB 3.0. I have tested with 4 different external hard drives one a m.2 NVME set up large transfer's 100 to 200 GB block of all sorts of data. Set the 4 to transferring data between each other and the NVME also transferring to my onboard m.2 NVME I couldn't get it to fail on my dell 13 3586 or my Asus G752VY. Back on the subject at hand I have never had a failure to back up or restore or Verify, using these hubs. I use all WD My passports 2 to 5 TB So the computer and Hub are suppling all the power. The Hub comes with a 4A charger

    Very confusing Denis.

No Clintlgm, my USB3.0 external. Made my Nexstar. It was a very early release and it just causes issues with Macrium verifications. Some day I will replace, I come so close every so often.

I’m new to Windows 10, just built a new PC, and want to make an image.

I was going to use the Windows 10 built in image backup program and also Macrium Reflect. IOW have images made from two different sources. But from what I’ve read it seems the Win10 imaging app is probably going by the wayside, is that correct?

My system just has a 500GB SSD M.2, but will be adding an internal HDD for storage. The backup drive image will be stored on an external HDD.

So far I’ve only read the first 10 pages of this thread & need to get a USB thumb drive or two. What size USB stick is needed to make the Rescue Media?

If I understand correctly it looks like MR can be installed & run from a USB drive instead of installing it on the C: drive. Can this be installed on the same USB thumb drive as the Rescue Media or the external backup HDD? Or will that create some type of conflict?

    Thanks for a great tutorial.
Any & all suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks
