    Thank you so much

F14 tomcat, I will study this and I'm sure it will be a great help. I will read the manual and work on this again tomorrow.

Once the backup process started and the computer said it would take 39 minutes I left it to it's work for awhile. When I came back it was finished. The file that is supposed to contain the backup has a filename in it, but shows no information in the file size tab.

I seem to remember an earlier backup program I used did the same thing, but it would be nice to know that there is a file there!

Size should be on the right side. Here's a sample of mine.

It did not offer me the option to create recovery media or the option to verify the backup. Or, at least, I did not find these options as I proceeded through the menus and the tutorial.
Create rescue media is a choice from the "other tasks" dropdown menu.

Verify: poke the "restore" tab below the gears shown at the upper left of the main window. Highlight any of your images shown at screen center. Over at the far right, you should see an "other actions" dropdown. Verify is a choice there.

You can also choose "auto verify" from "other tasks" dropdown, then "edit defaults".

If I recall correctly, you are also offered a chance to verify whenever you begin a restore.

Thank you to all of you. f14tomcat, the manual helped. I didn't realize that the shiny disc icon in the upper left was the place to click to create rescue media. That part worked fine once I was clued in.

Microsoft surprised me with an update of W7, which I expect protects against the threats that were identified on the day support stopped, so I ran another backup. Once I have re-read and made notes on getting accounts and opening screens the way I want them, I'll upgrade this last computer today or tomorrow.

I'll mark this thread "solved" and I sincerely appreciate the help of all of you.

Today, I used Auto Verify for the first time, and the flash drive disconnected at the end of the backup, which caused the verification to fail. After I reconnected the drive, manually verifying worked just fine. Is that a common thing?

Not for me, I routinely back up a small netbook to a flash drive with auto verify turned on. Never had a problem.

I've just tested an auto verified backup to a flash drive on another machine, that worked too (Reflect v7.2.4711).

I normally update my Rescue media using Macrium and it has worked fine.
Yesterday I updated by Laptop and updated the rescue USB but when testing it, it would not show my USB disc drive where my images are stored. I redid my rescue media and used Advance-Device&Drivers and it updated again and all is fine.

First time I had a problem but now I have a revised method to update my rescue media.

    Hi,

There's an update available to fix that problem now.

    Cheers,

Yup, it even says to update your rescue media if version is older that a certain level (that I didn't make not of, sorry).
