Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect  

Another possible combination. A large enough HDD with USB3 connection, made into Rescue disk and have enough space left to put .mrimg file on it.

Just went thru all that scenario. That's what we're trying to talk him out of.

Short version. You set up one definition to backup to a FOLDER you create on one of the HDDs. Test it, make sure it works. Then copy the definition 2 times. Rename the copies so they make sense to you. Edit the copies to change the destination folder to the other HDDs. Now you have 3 definitions, all 3 backing up the same data source, but to 3 different external HDDs. All you physically have to do is plug the right one in, or it will yell at you.

You are correct in both statements. Rescue on THUMB....good. Images on HDD......good. I was suggesting a an extension to your setup if space on the HDD was an issue. Use all 3 HDDs, and split the load.

I actually have one like that and use it for my laptop. Updating Re doesn't delete anything from the disk.

You already have a definition made and are using it now to backup to the HDD. Is there a FOLDER on the HDD you are backing up to, or are you just making images in the root of the drive? Root meaning in D: for example. As opposed to D:\MYBackup.

Yes there is a folder, named it W10Pro backup

I'd certainly want to keep more than 1 copy of any given image file. They are among your most valuable files, so why wouldn't you want to have a duplicate?

Good. Now go into Macrium and your definitions. Duplicate the definition and then rename it to something meaningful. On a second (or third) HDD, create a folder called W10Pro backup_2. Edit the copied definition to point to the second HDD and folder as the destination. Save the definition. Now you have 2 or 3 if you choose. Plug in the correct one, and run the corresponding definition file. Done.

Advantage of using 3 HDDs in rotation is you will have a standard Son, Father, Grandfather set of backups. Copying the same image to multiple HDDs gives you copies of the same image, not a timeline.
