If I use Windows>Advanced settings>Restart>Use a Device>UEFI:Removable Device>Restart>
then it goes to the 'boot menu/choose operating system' blue screen

If I subsequently choose: "Operating system > Macrium Reflect System Recovery", then the version of macrium i see is (the equivalent of) this

and when I click on the 'Console options' button at the bottom of the screen, it kicks out to a console at
x:\Windows\System32

(x: appears to be the USB boot disc)
The contents of X: is this: 'TheXfiles.txt' | TextUploader.com

So is the fact that the console shows X: as the active drive sufficient to conclude that macrium is running from the usb rescue disc ? , thanks


(I can see my images (on another drive) if I try to load them, but haven't got as far as actually restoring them yet - it was the 'booting from the rescue disc' part that that I was mainly concerned about)

separately, I have been looking all day for a way to 'one-time' boot the rescue disk from BIOS but haven't yet found a keycombo that will get to that option in BIOS (even tried doing it from the EFI shell, per

Hi Yes, I just did a test launching MR from the standard boot menu (i.e. not having booted from a USB drive) and it still shows as X: ,

Which kind of gets me back to square 1!! If I have an instance of MR on the C: drive and an instance on the USB drive, how can I test that the one on the USB drive will work in the case where the one on C: has been corrupted?

Thanks. It now seems pretty clear that is not booting from the USB drive (boot time C:/USB is the same, screen res is inconclusive as the screen is only 1280x800 anyway)); removing macrium from the boot menu leaves no room for doubt - it ain't booting from the USB.

I have recreated the recovery disc in case I had messed up the parameters (esp 32 vs 64bit). I have also recreated it on a different physical USB drive.

Having removed the boot menu, booting from Windows to the rescue disc just gives a plain blue screen for a minute, then the PC shuts down. Once, it gave me an option to boot the *actual name* of the rescue drive, rather than the usual, generic, "UEFI:Removable Device", but it still didn't get any further than the blank, blue screen after the restart).

....I guess I just have to keep plugging away at the 288 different permutations of Cntl, Shift, , Alt and F1-12 ? and hope that my frog will turn into a prince someday??

(which is for a slightly earlier version, the Tesco 7(inch)). He says "F7 : Boot Menu where you can choose what you want to boot from - that is either a bootable USB or the main system drive"

On mine, F7 gives me a Menu:

I'm not sure how to boot to USB from Bios. The Bios settings under Boot are

..and the only available settings under each one are (1) Windows Boot Manager; (2) Built-in EFI Shell; or (3) disable

I guess that the USB would have shown-up in that first (F7) menu if it was bootable, eh?

As I say, I have created the rescue disk several times over on more than one drive. Settings
Architecture: 32bit (it is a 32 bit machine)
Add bitlocker support:yes
Add iSCSI Support:yes
Enable Legacy EFI Screen Support: yes
Enable legacy SMB v1 support:yes
Custom base WIM: No

I have another (64 bit) machine (the Levono Yoga2Pro).

In the 64bit Levono:
-I CAN boot (from Windows or Bios),a macrium USB rescue disc made ON the 64bit machine.
-I CAN'T boot (or see, in bios) the macrium USB that I made in the 32bit (tesco connect) machine

In the 32bit Tesco Connect:
-The F7 menu CAN see the '64bit' macrium drive (that was made in the 64bit machine). The F7 menu gives me an option to boot from it (although it doesn't actually boot from it, it seems to just boot from the standard Windows boot menu)
-Nothing seems to see or boot the '32bit' USB that was made in the 32 bit machine
