Thanks once again for the tutorial for Macrium!!!!!! I put together some old parts for my super old Q9650 quad core and then took the old 40GB hard drive it had the win7 for it on.... used Macrium to backup over my network the boot drive. Then shutdown, put a larger 80gb in there and restored the image. Shutdown, removed the 40 and plugged the 80 into the sata cable from the 40. Booted and boom! It works.

If I replace my SSD drive for a bigger size can I just restore an Macrium Image backup from the previous SSD?

Yes you can although you will have to do something about any empty partition you will have of same size as difference in total capacities of disks. You could either format it as separate partition or merge with C:

Yes and you can modify the size and alignment of the partitions if necessary.

Thanks for the tutorial.. works great with Macrium Reflect 7 Free. The steps seem a little different in terms of what is offered in sequence but the main point is still the same.

The first couple of times I tried to make a system image backup without reading any detailed instructions or tutorial I messed it up apparently by choosing "image this disk" which I believe copies every partition including HP recovery. When I tried to restore this file, it would state that I am missing files and that it can't do it. Not sure why.

Now if I choose "create an image of the partitions required to backup and restore Windows", then it creates a file (composed of 4 partitions) that will restore correctly through the program or rescue media. So it works great thanks!

(Btw there is a little typo in the beginning of the tutorial - should be "continental" Europe).

I have a little question regarding this. Im about to do in image backup of an old Toshba disk that came with my current work laptop (in case I need some of the c... bundled stuffs Acer added, which is very few). Can I just mount it in a USB case, and instruct Macrium to make an image backup of said disk in it's USB case?

Second question, after that, Can I select my current active disk (the one I boot from) to make an image backup, so I can save said backup on another external disk? In my boot disk, I also have a partition where I save my personal files, can I just select only the partitions windows need to boot and work, to backup, without affecting a restoration process later? (Meaning, I select the two EFI partitions + Windows partition to backup, and later, I just wanna restore those, without affecting the personal data partition)

    Thanks in advance

For first question, you can point to or make a backup of any disk that's recognized by OS and MR. If you see it in MR list you can use it.
For second question, you can select just partitions you need and want to back up. Just choose "Create an image of the partition(s) required to back up and restore windows". Any created .mrimg file can be moved/copied anywhere.

Macrium Reflect cannot make image backups of external drives.

A work around is to create a virtual hard drive on pc, and use minitool partition wizard to copy C drive to vhd. Then an image backup of vhd can be made, and vhd deleted to save space.

MR can make an image of any partition it can see, internal or external.
